Reviewing a Pair of Villainesses from "A Job to Kill For"
An assistant's ambition becomes a deranged obsession, though she's not the only evil threat in this 2006 Lifetime film

One vintage Lifetime film I remember well is A Job to Kill For, which I have seen quite a few times; as recently as a few days ago for the purpose of writing this review. On that day, it was the first time I had seen it in a number of years, and I have Tubi to thank for this, because they are a hotbed of classic Lifetime films, and some Lifetime-esque original films.
So here's the setting. In one scene, we have Jennifer Kamplan, introduced as the General Manager of HR&Y Advertising, and she makes quite the grand introduction to her employees. All the while, we see a young woman in a very hot and romantic scenario with an advertising executive, Martin Keller, who ends up eletrocuted in his hot tub. While police suspect foul play, the same woman, introduced as Stacy Sherman, appears to Jennifer with a bid to become her assistant. Jennifer hires Stacy and takes a huge liking to her, especially because Stacy appears to do all she can for Jennifer.
As we would see, Jennifer's the only one who really likes Stacy; her employees aren't crazy about her, and Stacy's attitude doesn't help matters. As we also see, Stacy is very serious about wanting to do everything for Jennifer. After both women see that Jennifer's side mirrors have been stolen, Stacy tracks them down to a local thief, Lawrence Marishak, and after introducing herself as a buyer, Stacy confronts Lawrence about his thievery. The confrontation becomes violent, as she bludgeons Lawrence to death with a tire iron. And that's her second body; it is officially confirmed by the detectives that the hot tub was tampered with.
Jennifer's admiration for Stacy continues, even at the expense of her employees. While Jennifer's work life is going well, her marriage to her husband, Patrick Kamplan, is on the rocks, and it looks like her job is a reason. As for Stacy, her immorality continues to be displayed. She manages to engage in a sexual encounter with business rival Terrance Leary (who she later blackmails), and she eliminates Roger Shapiro, who she saw as a threat to Jennifer.
Stacy continues to enjoy being devoted to Jennifer, but later on, Jennifer informs Stacy that she plans on resigning and focusing on her marriage. This does not set well with Stacy, who later enters the Kamplan house and stabs Patrick. While this was occurring, Jennifer had learned about Stacy's actions from the police, and she rushed to the house, only to find Patrick stabbed and on the floor. Stacy proudly boasts about killing Patrick, but in response, Jennifer takes out a gun and suddenly shoots Stacy.
Now, you would think the shooting is an act of revenge. It's not. Jennifer tells Stacy that she had been plotting to have Patrick eliminated for a while, as she couldn't fathom splitting her assets with Patrick in a divorce. After noticing Stacy's insane devotion, Jennifer decided to use that and use Stacy in her sinister machinations, while also ignoring Stacy's shock and protests by stating that Stacy always needed her. Jennifer later shoots Stacy to death, and once the detectives arrived, the sinister villainess acted shocked to see Patrick deceased and adding that she killed Stacy in self-defense. One problem: while Stacy was dead, Patrick wasn't. There was a pulse, and as Patrick stated at the final moment of the film, Jennifer's plan was not succeeding.
And now, the villainesses.
Stacy Sherman

A Job to Kill For aired on Lifetime on June 27, 2006, and the film featured Georgia Craig as the deranged Stacy Sherman. I loved Stacy; she was your typical obsessed subordinate--we see a lot of these types in Lifetime films. What was great was that her psychotic demeanor was pretty much established in the very first scene, and the rest was just Stacy at work doing her best (or worst) to please Jennifer. That stunning moment where Stacy realizes that her devotion to Jennifer was pretty much all for naught, that she was nothing more than a means to a very sinister end? Absolutely marvelous.
Georgia Craig's performance as Stacy was absolutely thrilling. She truly dove in to Stacy's madness and obsession, and she absolutely shined in the climax as well; where we see Stacy's shock over Jennifer's deception. Craig's first acting role was in the 2003 comedy, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, and she's also appeared in episodes of The L Word, Stargate SG-1, and Supernatural.

Jennifer Kamplan

You never know who will pop up in a Lifetime film, and this film was definitely an example. Sean Young starred in this film as the ambitious yet evil Jennifer Kamplan, and regarding the former half of that description, that's exactly what we see from Jennifer. Jennifer Kamplan is full of ambition; she goes after what she wants in life, in her job, in anything. We also see a softer side to her when it came to Stacy in the majority of the film, as she appears to have her own devotion when it comes to her newly hired assistant.
And then, there's the climax.

Without question or debate, Jennifer's heel turn in the climax was the absolutely top moment of the film. When she fired her first shot at Stacy, Jennifer transformed herself into a calculated and manipulative sociopath who had been using Stacy all this time to fulfill the ultimate goal: killing her way out of losing half of her finances in a possible divorce. We see a lot of arrogance from Jennifer, as she was so certain that she had everything all planned out, but that moment where she realizes Patrick's alive was golden, as Jennifer had a look of a woman who knew that her life, as she knew it, was over.
Unsurprisingly, Sean Young was stellar in this role. She acted out Jennifer's warmth towards Stacy so well, and she truly delivered a shocker while acting out Jennifer's heel turn in the final moments. Young has several claims to fame; playing Rachael in Blade Runner, and of course, she's definitely known for Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, appearing as main villainess Lois Einhorn. She also played Lola Cain in Fatal Instinct, but those are just some of her many, many memorable roles.
