Stranger Things: The Parallel between the Upside Down, the Abyss, hell,Vecna the Mind Flayer, and Satan

Looking at the series from a Biblical perspective

Stranger Things has come and gone, but fans are still dissecting the Netflix series. As a Bible reader and a believer in the return of Jesus Christ and the battle of Armageddon, I found several parallels. This is my personal observation, and you may have your own.

The Bible and the Quran describe hell as having dimensions. In Stranger Things, it was revealed that there were dimensions inside the Upside Down, which turned out to be more than connected to the normal world known as The Right Side Up.

The Upside Down was a bridge or gateway to the Abyss a a darker, chaotic dimension which was the source of all the drama. Only evil happened in that realm, which was dark and chaotic. There was suffering and torture as is described to be happening in hell.

Vecna originally was Henry Creel (Jamie Campbell Bower), a handsome young man who had been one of the children in the lab. His transformation into the monster parallels Satan, who was created as Lucifer, a being of light.

The Bible says Satan can deceive people by presenting himself as an angel of light. Henry gave a false impression to the children and convinced them he was their savior when in reality, he desired to destroy them. The Bible says in John 10:10 that Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy.

Vecna and the Mind Flayer merged to combine their powers for evil to destroy the world. Bloodshed, loss of life, destruction of property, children at risk, lives ruined, and an entire town was turned upside down.

The demogorgons can be seen as demons or the agents of evil who do the bidding of their master. They wreak havoc on the residents of Hawkins, Indiana, beginning with kidnapping Will Byers ( Schnapp) and killing Barbara Holland (Shannon Purser).

In season five of Stranger Things, a battle ensues, and Vecna, the Mind Flayer, demgorgons, The Upside Down, and the Abyss are destroyed. The Bible says that after the return of Christ and the final battle, Satan, his minions, death, and hell will be destroyed.

There will be a new heaven and a new earth. Old things will pass away. The residents of Hawkins had to rebuild from the trauma, which the government said was caused by an earthquake.

The main characters in Stranger Things all moved on, and it seemed they were on the path to happy lives. It was also implied that possibly Jane/ELeven/El had survived her ordeal and is out there somewhere.

Believers in Christ hold onto the blessed hope that one day this world as we know it will be gone. Life was turned upside down when Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, and mankind has suffered ever since.

Hawkins no longer has to be concerned about ecna, the Mind Flayer or demogorgons. One day, according to scripture, those who believe in Jesus Christ will be free of Satan, demons, and evil.

There were so many tears shed in Stranger Things, especially in the scene where El disappears. All of her friends called out to her, but she followed through with her choice.

As Purple Rain played and the turntable spun around I could sense that El was going to sacrifice her life, and I cried. My takeaway, from the series is found in Revelation 21:4

He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

Each time I rewatch the final scenes, my faith is strengthened. A day came after 10 years when Hawkins was set free from the evil. I do not doubt that our redemption is also drawing near. That's my Stranger Things revelation. I'm certain you have your own.
