My Salinger Year - A Movie Review

'My Salinger Year' is a film for all writers.

Your career path is all based on what you want. Do your job.

My Salinger Year is a 2020 film. Right out of college, Joanna takes a clerical job as a literary agent to the reclusive writer, J.D. Salinger. During this year, she learns a lot about herself and her career.

If you are a writer, My Salinger Year is the right film for you. As soon as I watched the trailer, I knew this film was for me. My Salinger Year reminded me of The Devil Wears Prada, minus the fashion world. If you are going to make it in the world then you must challenge yourself and exploit your expertise.

Recently, I saw Margaret Qualley’s inquisitive performance in the Netflix series, Maid. She is an impressive actress, and very expressive. Joanna is not afraid to take a stand. Except, she has flaws. Who doesn’t? Nobody knows how to drive life, especially right out of college. Joanna is a figure to anybody who has struggled with life after college.

Sigourney Weaver half-channeled Miranda Priestly but played her role as the boss in a completely different fashion. I liked Weaver’s approach to the role. As the boss of any establishment, one needs to be open to new ideas. Slowly, Margaret descends her barriers, listening to new ideas that she never thought about before.

I liked the cast of My Salinger Year. An assortment of characters appears. Gilmore Girls fans will be happy to see Yanic Truesdale. Credits include Douglas Booth, Seana Kerslake, Brian F. O’Byrne, Colm Feore, Theodore Pellerin, and Tim Post.

Learning to work with co-workers is an important lesson of tolerance. Not only co-workers, but learning who your real friends are, and what relationships ate worth seeking. I liked the dynamic between Joanna and Rod (Douglas Booth). I also liked the minor characters who wrote letters to J.D. Salinger. Side characters are so important.

How would you react if you ever saw your favorite author? It’s everyone’s dream to meet their favorite author. I read The Catcher in the Rye in my sophomore year of high school. Tim Post had the opportunity to play J.D. Salinger, but most of his face was obscured by camera angles.

Phillippe Falardeau made a film about finding your purpose. I liked the atmosphere. This film is about more than one thing. Take as long as you need to find it. My Salinger Year is a chance for English majors to learn about their careers.

Falardeau was very creative in her work for this film. Keeping one famous author concealed, I liked the use of edits and perspective. However, as much as I enjoyed the film, it was not as original. It copied most segments and characters from The Devil Wears Prada.

Your career path involves what you desire and how you live your life. Decisions are never easy, but it’s all a part of growing up. Never be afraid to make a mistake or a suggestion to your boss. Explore options.

My Salinger Year is a film about growth. It is so important to have options even when you’re not sure of the next step. Is this life right for me? That is a question that goes through everyone’s mind, no matter how old you are. There is always more if you do like something.

My Salinger Year is a great film for anyone seeking something new. I recommend that anyone who is just graduating from college to watch this film. It's a film that I needed. The themes really made me think.

I watched this one as well. I thought I'd love it, but it fell a bit flat. Nothing happened. Which is a bit of a flaw in any story, in any medium 🤪 Minor error: "which relationships ate worth seeking".
