My Review of "The Book of Boba Fett: Season 1"

A fun little diversion but I kind of wished it centered on Boba Fett a little bit more.

The Book of Boba Fett: Season 1 is the newest Star Wars TV series to stream on Disney Plus. I wondered to myself how the heck did they make a whole TV series based on a character that barely showed up in the original Star Wars movies. Still Boba Fett has legions of fans that enticed Disney to create this series.

It all starts out with Boba Fett in some sort of recovering chamber. He's having flashbacks of what had happened him after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi. As all of you might have remembered there was some sort of jet malfunction and he flew into this underground monster's mouth.

Somehow he was able to survive this ordeal. I guess his armor helped him but then again how can armor save you from digestive acid? It's a fantasy TV show Brian just go with it... Okay so he somehow fights his way out of that death sentence and gets stuck in the desert with nothing.

There's a group of Tuskan Raiders that take him as prisoner. This is where Boba gets assigned to a little Tuskan kid. All of a sudden they get attacked by some monster and Boba, being a mercenary for hire, was able to kill this beast. Thankful for saving his life the kid tells the others in the tribe and they befriend Boba.

We then go into some sort of flashforward to his present day. Here he's taken over Jabba the Hutt's neighborhood. He's the new boss in town and I guess not everyone is happy about that. Boba is definitely a lot more kind and peaceful than I had expected him to be.

That's party because of the crazy stuff he had to go through to get to the place he's in now. The series continues to jump back and forward in time to explain how he got to the place he's at. It's kind of reminiscent to The Godfather Part II where we see a modern Michael and a how Vito became the Don. In this case we see how Boba becomes the Don of this little village in Tatooine.

Along the way he makes some pretty powerful friends and some powerful enemies at the same time. It very much feels like some sort of mafia story but with a Star Wars spin to it. Then later on when things get really dicey things take an abrupt turn.

It then feels like this was actually someone else's show not Boba's after all. It's kind of a continuation of another Disney plus Star Wars series and I don't think they really needed to do this. I know why they did it because it was pandering to all the fans of the series but it really took me away from the subject at hand for Boba's story.

Fans of that other series will be delighted because there are a ton of cameos and call backs that will pander to all of their fans. I can't lie some of those scenes did put a smile on my face but in other ways I kind of rolled my eyes. It was obviously the producers trying to make fans happy and giddy with expectations.

Overall, this isn't a bad series. It's definitely uneven only because they didn't want to commit to a particular vision. I'm fine with either vision but it felt as though someone had come into the writers room and hijacked the show. That's not to say that this is not an entertaining viewing. I have to give this season a 7 out of 10. It's a shame this show didn't have the guts to stand its ground and commit to Boba Fett. They have a lot of interesting characters that have lots of potential.
