My Review of "Seinfeld: Season 3

This season really shifts the show into what we know the show as today.

Seinfeld: Season 3 is probably one of the most pivotal seasons of the show's run. It came out back in 1991 and was really showing us what 90s culture was all about. There are tons of pop cultural references as well as signs of the times. Those that lived through that decade can probably appreciate this season just that much more.

The season starts off with a bit of a bang and a little bit of a whimper. The episode of "The Note" has George having a homophobic existential moment. He has a male masseuse gives him a message and he believes he may have been sexually aroused. His overreaction and panic is quite hilarious however the show episode kind of withers away afterwards.

I can say this about a lot of the first few episodes of this season. They have great ideas and potential but ultimately drag on a bit. It's too bad because they genuinely have hilarious moments but the show doesn't hold up to that level throughout the episode. At times things can even get grating. The banter can get a bit nagging and annoying at times.

Though this season the whole cast of characters have a bit of a pivot point in the middle of the season. I think around when we have the episode with "The Nose Job" we see a bit of a meaner side of the gang. They're a little more of an extreme version of themselves. This is when the show really starts to kick into gear.

You see the cast do some unknowingly pretty despicable stuff. I say unknowing because the characters themselves always feel that they're in the right of way where everyone else in the show including the audience can see otherwise.

Prior to watching the show back to back like I am right now I didn't realize how this show works in chronological order. You get a bit more satisfaction of the jokes while watching it in chronological order. This season introduces some call backs to previous episodes. For those that are watching episodes at random some of these stories might not make total sense to you.

For the most part the shows can still be watched on an individual basis, but there are a ton of in jokes that you might not understand. That is unless you've watched this show in chronological order.

This is the first season with a full 22 episode season. You can tell it stumbles a bit in the beginning but it really ramps up later on in the season. None of the stories interweave extensively with one another like a conventional drama series. The writing material just gets better as the season goes on.

I really think they found themselves closer to the end of the season and the episodes that really caught my eye this season were:

"The Nose Job"

This is the episode when George is dating the girl of his dreams however she's got a big nose. He somehow convinces her to have a nose job and things go awry.

"The Red Dot"

This is the episode when Elaine gets George a job at Pendent Publishing. To thank Elaine for the opportunity George buys her a cashmere sweater. The only problem with the sweater is that it has a tiny red dot.

"The Limo"

Jerry and George are stuck in a scenario where they take out a limo meant for someone else. To do this they have to assume the identity of the mysterious individual. Little do they know that person isn't the best person to be impersonating.

As a first this season ends with a bit of a cliffhanger. It kind of makes you want to watch the next season because the show is starting to get really wacky.

Overall, I had a bit of fun with this season in the beginning but had no idea this show would turn face and really ramp up later in the season. There's so much fun and barrels of laughs close to the end that I can't wait to get to the next season. That's why I have to give this season a 7.5 out of 10. I know this next season will be a blast!
