Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is a Netflix exclusive movie that came out at the end of 2022. It is by far my favorite Netflix exclusive movie of the year. It's a movie of it's own but it's the second appearance of Benoit Blanc of the Knives Out movie of 2019. I was a huge fan of that movie and was in doubt for this second outing. Boy was I mistaken.

The movie starts out quite mysteriously by introducing to us the key players of the murder mystery. They're all provided a strange box from the infamous Miles Bron. This box contains small puzzles that would lead to other small puzzles until they ultimately get a final message.

Through the interactions of the players trying to figure out the puzzles we learn more about their characters. We have the ditzy girl named Birdie, a brutish man named Duke, a washed out scientist named Lionel and a politician by the name of Claire. They're all invited to Bron's luxurious island for a murder mystery dinner.

We have two wild card characters with Bron's ex Andi and Benoit. The movie does a great job in giving us the audience a false sense of knowing what's going on. We quickly get suspicious of each of the characters as we get to know more and more about their motives.

This false sense of understanding will be pulled from under us multiple times as this movie will have twists and turns that you might not expect. Those are the really fun parts of this movie.

One of the things I was worried about with this movie was that it wouldn't be as wacky and fun as the first movie. I can safely say that I was wrong. This movie keeps that same fun and extreme craziness intact. It's really made me a fan of this franchise and in mystery movies in general. There is so much fun to be had with this movie as you're trying to figure out what's going to happen next.

One thing I would highly recommend is to watch this with a group of people. I think this is best watched in a living room with a bunch of friends so you can all discuss as the movie is playing. You'll all really get into the action and when there is a fun twist I can imagine you all throwing your arms up in the air. This is almost an interactive movie in some aspects because they really get you into trying to figure out the clues and who had done what.

Character development is also a big thing in this movie. They did a great job in building each of the archetypes of each of the characters. You really understand their motivations and why they would do things in the first place. Some of the major comedic moments come from the misunderstandings of one character of another while the audience truly understands what's going on. There's quite a lot of this dramatic irony in this movie but only later in the movie. We're in the cold just as each of the characters in the early parts of the movie.

Overall, I had laughs, I had rage, I had confusion and most of all I had a ton of fun. This is a movie that plays with your head and they do it really well. It goes to show that a good story, structure and good acting can still make a really good movie. This is why I have to give this movie an 8.5 out of 10. You really have to check this movie out with a group of people. It will be the best time you've had in a long time.
