My Review of "Blink Twice"
This is either the women's version of "Get Out" or a reminder of what we were taught as kids.

Blink Twice is a bit of a psychological thriller that came out recently in 2024. It's a cautionary tale that we all know but I guess we have to be reminded every so often. Due to the fact that there were some jump scares in this movie I wasn't sure if I'd classify this as a horror movie or a thriller. I thought it fit more of the latter category because there's more intensity to this movie than outright fear.
The movie is about these women that venture of to this mysterious place that seems too good to be true. In many ways, you're going to have to throw your logic out the window while watching this to have a great time. We've all been taught that we have to be cautious when things are too good to be true. Most often than not there's always a catch. In this case it's a movie, of course there's going to be catches.
We're led by Frida in this movie. She just wants to be noticed and loved. In this mysterious place she is and she loves it. It seems like everyone there is having a grand old time. Well grand old time if you're young. You'd kind of question why these young women want to go out with these older men. It's such a red flag. Again throw your logic out the window. It's a movie that's meant to keep you on your feet.
That is accomplished throughout the movie. They kept me on my toes and they throw around a few easter eggs to follow throughout the movie to figure things out yourself. Everything in this movie is done intentionally and in some ways I found it was very clever in the way they did some of the clues. When things don't start to add up to Frida, everything starts to pick up. While she's piecing everything together the movie gets really fun.
Some may find this movie a little on the wokeness scale as all the men in this movie are inherently bad. There are some obvious social commentary in the way telling us how badly men treat women and how we expect women to be. It even goes into talking about the way women are expected to treat each other and the list goes on. Some of those additions felt a little heavy handed in this movie. I don't mind those discussions but try to make them a little more subtle throughout the movie rather than constantly bringing these topics when it has nothing to do with what they're doing. It kind of took me out of the movie because it wasn't focused at the task at hand. Which was the women trying to figure out how they'd get out of this house of horrors.
Action sequences were pretty well done. Though they were done in the dark I could tell what was going on. Some of these scenes are quite brutal but they fit the mood of the movie quite well. There are some scenes that had some of the audience quite excited. You can have a lot of fun with these scenes but again throw your logic out the window to have this fun. It's sort of like that John Wick fun that people had. It doesn't make sense but if you don't think about it, they are pretty wicked.
The performances by the cast was really well done. I thought everyone involved in this one did a bang up job in their roles. They really made you feel for them and at times fear them. Each one of them had layers to their characters so they had to use a bit of range to play their parts.
Overall, this is a fun movie that you will probably enjoy more in the theatres than by yourself. Most of all I had a good time with it. I don't think I'd put this movie on repeat for myself but I think it's just not to my tastes but I can tell it would be in the tastes of others. I can't fault it for that. It was well made and I have to give it a 6.5 out of 10. Not my cup of tea but I appreciate the hard work and dedication to it.
