My Review of "Bad Boys: Ride or Die"
A movie that feels like it could have been straight to streaming but probably better experienced in theatres.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die is an action movie that I didn't expect to see in 2024. The last movie came out in 2020 and I wasn't the biggest fan of it. Though it was adequate I didn't see them pursuing another sequel. Here we are four years later with another movie to their franchise. Good for them too because I heard this one did quite well. Though I had a lot of ups and downs with this movie.
The movie starts off with a little change of pace. Mike actually gets married int he beginning of this movie. This is quite a big change as he's always been a sworn bachelor throughout the series. During the wedding ceremony Marcus has a traumatic heart attack.
Miraculously, Marcus recovers from this accident. During his brief experience with death he had some life changing experiences. He's now a much freer man. It's in his understanding that it's not his time to die yet so he's living freely as if nothing can touch him.
Meanwhile, Mike is having the opposite situation. He's having existential situations where he now has to worry about a new family. In the previous movie he discovered that he has a son. His son makes a return in this movie. Not only this but he also worries about the safety of his new wife. It doesn't help that Marcus had just flirted with death. He's starting to have a feeling that he's put a curse on anyone around him. With these deep feelings he starts to experience panic attacks.
This couldn't come at the worse time. Their former boss who passed away in the last movie was investigating some crooked cops. These crooked cops are now finally trying to fill in the holes and come after Mike and Marcus. They're coming with a vengeance too.
With Mike and Marcus' roles reversed they have to figure out a way to outsmart the bad guys and keep their families safe. They have to do it in the most destructive way possible as well of course.
This movie is full of some crazy action scenes and that's what you're really looking for when you're watching this movie. Each story scene just feels like filler for the next action sequence or skit. There's not a lot of content to it but it knows that's what kind of movie it intends to be. I won't fault them for that because some of these scenes are quite funny in the cheesiest way possible. They even added a few fun cameos in there that I thought were pretty fun.
Some of the action scenes do take a little getting used to though. They decided to change things up with the action sequences by providing us with very dynamic camera angles. At times I felt like I was in a video game when some of these camera views hit. This very much feels like a video game movie. I guess it's to help the new generation identify with this older franchise.
I have to admit there is one action sequence that I had to watch more than once because it was so well done. This particular action sequence isn't even a big part in the story but man is it badass and it really stole the show for me. The way they sold everything was so good.
Overall, I still had a good time with this movie. Content wise this movie doesn't have much but the charisma of the cast really elevates this to entertainment fun. You're really here for the action sequences and they deliver on all counts for this department. As an action movie they did a really good job. That's why I have to give this movie a 6.5 out of 10.
