My Review of "Bad Batch: Season 2"
This season was kind of all over the place with highs and lows.

Bad Batch: Season 2 has recently finished up in 2023 and it definitely had its ups and downs. There is a bit of a departure from the stellar first season. At times I had to remind myself this is a children's TV show to make myself understand why they went into certain directions with the show. That's not to say it didn't have its great moments either.
The season starts off kind of unceremoniously. The first few episodes felt like they were all one off episodes. They all seemed to be self contained episodes that have a bit of references to the group's past experiences. For the most part you don't really need to know much about the group to keep up with these episodes.
This kind of works in and out of the show's favor. I felt that they made us invest so much in the storyline of Omega and the bad batch of misfits. It kind of felt like we deserved more information about what's going on with their overall story. Still these smaller stories kind of help develop the characters a bit more.
We get have a few episodes to grow a certain character to develop our investment in them. I should have known it was a foreshadow for things to come. It was so obvious and yet I kind of fell for the whole why did they do that reaction close to the middle of the season.
These episodes are to build an overall bigger story with some of the more minor characters that we've seen in the first season. I get what they're doing but at times these little adventures seem pretty juvenile. Most of the times the problems could be easily resolved but Omega's emotions prevent the bad batch from moving on and get into a wilder situation.
Closer to the end of the season is where the show really picks up. The show relatches itself to the original main overarching story that happened in the first season. It has a very good time playing around with some misdirection as well. Though the ending was a bit to be desired. It of course ends in some sort of cliffhanger that makes us want to see the next season.
Though the way they did it was a bit anti-climactic. It almost felt as though the episode wasn't fully finished. So it wasn't really feel like a full episode. it was almost like a cut to black for commercial and then it was over. They really have to re-evaluate how they end these things.
The show in general has a weird way of doing their seasons too. It almost feels like this is half a season rather than a full season. There were a ton of episodes but the first half of the season felt more like filler than anything. Then again maybe it went by so fast that I didn't realize it was a full season? I wouldn't go so far as to think that though. I had moments where I was drifting to sleep while watching some of the one off episodes.
Overall, I did have some fun with this season but closer to the end of the season than the beginning. It's a Hodge podge of weirdness that I still have to commend because the show seems to be allowed to have some artistic freedom to do what they want to do. Still there has to be some quality control when they propose some of these episodes. I can still see some good things that can come out of this series but this one wasn't as great as the first. I have to give it a 6.5 out of 10. Here's hoping the next season gets back into shape.
