My Review of "Attack of the Hollywood Clichés"
Since I'm reviewing movies a lot might as well learn a little about common clichés in Hollywood.

Attack of the Hollywood Clichés is some sort of educational compilation of facts about Hollywood movie making. I know that there's a lot of clichés in Hollywood so I wanted to see if they had anything that would surprise me. There were a few but I think a lot of us knew about most of these.
The video is narrated by Rob Lowe. He's in a lot of movies and TV shows and you know he's putting on a character while he's hosting this video. I guess he decided to choose his Chris character that he played in Parks and Recreation. It's funny because he plays the part exactly how he played that character on the show.
One of the surprising things about this video was the sheer amount of Hollywood heavyweights to chime in to explain the clichés that they're talking about. I didn't think that they'd have so many stars sharing the information. Since it's a Netflix show I thought they were going to go the same route as they did with The Movie's That Made Us series. In that miniseries they used people behind the scenes to tell the story of how the movies were made. It was a nice touch to have some star power to the film.
I also liked the fact that they were able to use a lot of the sound clips from the movie examples that they were talking about. In a lot of similar videos you never really get sound clips of actual scenes to help direct the show. Usually there's some sort of licensing problem that prevents them from showing these clips. They got a pretty good amount of sound bites and videos to help convey what they're trying to say.
Boy oh boy were they right about a lot of the clichés. There's a lot of the usual clichés we all know and love like, montages, meet cutes in romantic comedies and jump scares. That's only to name just a few of the clichés that they touch upon. There's far more that they were able to cover but I feel like they have a lot more to cover in a future iteration.
I liked how they were able to dive into some of the more controversial clichés like the white savior, the token beautiful woman or manic pixie girl. They show how problematic that some of Hollywood's clichés can have on the world. Perhaps the innocence of animals in movies have made us much more empathetic to animal causes after generations of this belief. Media affects us all and its good that we're starting to notice some of the inequalities that come from something as simple as a cliché.
This movie was also able to look back into the history of some of these clichés. I loved the fact that they were able to dive deep into the history and why it became popular in the first place. They were also able to let us know what are the movies that set the bar for clichés that we know of.
If you've watched a lot of movies like I have, you'll definitely enjoy this film. It is very tongue in cheek with Rob Lowe playing himself as a narcissistic character. The pacing of the video is really well done. They don't spend too much time on specific clichés. This way you'll be rest assured a new subject will be coming up in only a matter of minutes so you don't really have to fast forward this show.
There were a few fun facts that I discovered with this show as well like the Hollywood joke scream. I had no idea they were using the same sound bite and now it may have screwed up a lot of movies for me.
I can't help but make comparisons to the The Movies That Made Us series. This film could have been broken up into episodic videos. This way they would be able to expand on new seasons had have smaller digestible episodes. Even though it doesn't feel too long, it might have been a good idea to have multiple episodes instead.
Overall, I did enjoy this video. Those of you that are interested in movies or are familiar with a lot of popular culture movies will enjoy this video as well. That's why I have to give this one a 7 out of 10. Very entertaining but only those that like films.
