5 Years Of 'WandaVision': Revisiting The Series Most Memorable Moments
An unusual couple.

It's hard to believe that it's already been five years since WandaVision, Marvel Studios' very first TV series, premiered on Disney Plus. A hit with both fans and critics, WandaVision was praised during it's run for expertly juggling so many elements, being both a love letter to classic sitcoms and a bittersweet exploration of grief before exploding into the usual MCU spectacle. The series is still widely considered among the best content Marvel Studios has produced, not just for television, but overall.
To celebrate the show's fifth anniversary, let's look back at some of WandaVision's most iconic moments.
Mr. Hart almost chokes
The majority of WandaVision's first episode, 'Filmed Before A Live Studio Audience' unfolds much like a typical black-and-white sitcom episode from the 50s. This changes during a dinner Wanda and Vision put on for Vision's Boss, Mr. Hart, and his wife. Mr. Hart begins asking questions about the couple's past that they are unable to answer, and soon begins to choke, as Mrs. Hart begs him, still eerily grinning, to 'Stop it!'.
The scene breaks the illusion of the sitcom world, until Wanda orders Vision to help Mr. Hart, after which the sitcom plot continues as though nothing had happened. This first trip into the Uncanny Valley is the first obvious sign to viewers that all is not right in Westview, and remains one of the series most memorable moments.
The Radio
During episode two, 'Don't Touch That Dial', while speaking with town Queen Bee Dottie, Wanda's illusion is broken again when an outsider, later revealed to be Agent Jimmy Woo, tries to reach her through the radio. Peace is once again restored when Dottie cuts her hand, although the eerieness continues as she bleeds red in the black-and-white world.
Another creepy, yet memorable moment.
A World in Colour
Towards the end of 'Don't Touch That Dial', shortly after discovering her pregnancy, Wanda must deal with a second intrusion into her perfect sitcom world, rewinding time to erase the arrival of a creepy Beekeeper/S.W.O.R.D agent. After, the world slowly changes from black-and-white to colour.
This iconic moment appeared in many of the series trailers.
The Birth of Tommy and Billy
The sitcom plot of WandaVision's third episode, 'Now In Colour!', deals with Wanda's rapidly advancing pregnancy, and the havoc said pregnancy is having on her powers. By the end of the episode, Wanda has given birth to twin sons, Tommy and Billy.
Tommy and Billy, destined to become the superheroes Wiccan and Speed, are popular characters in Marvel comics. This makes their birth in the MCU an immediately iconic moment.
Wanda throws Geraldine/Monica out of Westview
After the births of the twins, Wanda briefly reflects on the fact that she herself was a twin, remembering her lost brother, Pietro. Unfortunately, Wanda's mention of Pietro loosens the hex's hold on Geraldine, actually S.W.O.R.D Agent Monica Rambeau, who recalls Pietro's death at the hands of Ultron, alerting Wanda to the fact that she had come from outside Westview.
While Wanda claims that Geraldine has simply gone home when Vision returns to the house, the fourth episode, 'We Interrupt This Program..', which is set mostly outside of Westview snd follows the characters investigating the Hex, reveals that Wanda threw Monica out.
It was the first explicit sign that Wanda had control over what was going on.
Monica Returns From The Blip
'We Interrupt This Program..' opens with a flashback set in a hospital in the chaotic aftermath of the Blip's reversal. Monica Rambeau, who had been sleeping beside her Mother's hospital bed at the time she was blipped, returns to discover that despite surviving her initial surgery, Maria Rambeau's Cancer had returned, and she had died prior to her daughter's return.
It was the first time fans got a glimpse of the immediate impact and aftermath of the Avengers reversing the Blip.
Wanda Confronts S.W.O.R.D
Against Monica's wishes, Tyler Hayward attempts to assassinate Wanda in episode five, 'On A Very Special Episode..', believing that it will bring down the Hex. This, of course, does not pan out as Hayward hopes, and Wanda briefly exits the Hex to confront Hayward and S.W.O.R.D.
The scene was a reminder of how scary Wanda Maximoff could be, even before fully unlocking the powers of the Scarlet Witch.
Wanda and Vision Argue/Pietro is 'Recast'
Over the course of episode five, Vision becomes more aware that things are not right in Westview, and that his Wife is behind it, particularly after he briefly frees his colleague, Norm, from Wanda's control. The situation comes to a head in the final few minutes, as the couple argue over the morality of what Vision believes Wanda has done to the town.
After Wanda tries, and fails to end the argument by rolling credits on the episode, the argument is interrupted a secondtime by an unexpected visitor at the door.. Wanda's brother, Pietro, seemingly recast. Evan Peters, who played fake Pietro, also played an alternate Quicksilver, Peter Maximoff, in Fox's X-Men films, making his initial arrival in WandaVision a fun twist for fans.
Wanda Expands The Hex
WandaVision's sixth episode, 'All-New Halloween Spooktacular!', leads to what is one of the series most pivotal events. Continuing his investigation into the truth of Westview, Vision approaches the boundary of the Hex, attempting to exit in search of help, only for his body to begin falling apart once he exits the Hex. Hayward and a group of observing S.W.O.R.D agents do nothing to help.
Both Tommy and Billy's superpowers manifest during this episode, with Billy sensing his Father's distress with his new mind reading abilities, and informing his Mother. To save Vision, Wanda expands the Hex. Hayward escapes, but most of the S.W.O.R.D camp is absorbed into the Hex, becoming a visiting Carnival. It was one of the series' biggest cliffhangers.
Monica re-enters the Hex, gaining Superpowers
After being thrown out of the Hex, Monica Rambeau is warned that the waves that make up the hex barrier have altered her on a cellular level, and that it could be dangerous for her to pass back through without some sort of protection. However, in episode seven, 'Breaking The Fourth Wall, when the attempt at entering the Hex with a protective vehicle fails, Monica, eager to make contact with Wanda, and rescue Darcy, who was inadvertently caught up in the Hex's expansion, enters anyway.
It is not an easy task, but Monica makes it through, unharmed, but changed, having developed superpowers. Later, in The Marvels, these powers are explained as giving Monica the ability to see and manipulate the spectrum of light.
Agatha All Along!
Throughout most of the series, it is clear that there's something a little off about Wanda and Vision's neighbour, Agnes. This comes to a head at the end of episode 7, when Wanda discovers that Agnes is actually a centuries old witch, Agatha Harkness.
A musical sequence reveals that Agatha was never under Wanda's spell, and has been subtly influencing events within the Hex to try and push Wanda into revealing how she did it. The song, 'Agatha All Along', was so immediately iconic that it became the title of an Agatha-centric sequel/spin off in 2024.
"What Is Grief, if not love persevering?"
In WandaVision's penultimate episode, 'Previously On..' Agatha guides Wanda through a series of memories from her past, searching for the beginning of the Hex. One of these memories visits a conversation between Wanda and Vision shortly after the pair had joined the Avengers. As Wanda grieves the loss of Pietro, Vision comforts her with the following line:
"What is grief, if not love persevering?"
Many fans consider it one of the most beautiful lines in the history of the MCU.
The Hex Begins
In the final memory visited during 'Previously On..' Wanda travels to a plot of land in Westview purchased by the original Vision before his death. Wanda's grief for him and the life they could have had together explodes in a wave of chaos magic that casts the Hex over the town.
The reveal was both expected, and a twist at the same time. The Hex was Wanda's doing, but it occurred through the unintentional actions of a woman in pain. Hayward's efforts to paint her as a villain were unjustified.
"That Makes You The Scarlet Witch"
During Wanda's previous appearances, rights issues with Fox meant that the character could not use her her traditional superhero name, the Scarlet Witch, in the MCU. This was no longer an issue by the time WandaVision aired, as Disney had purchased Fox.
In episode eight's final moments, Agatha names Wanda as the Scarlet Witch for the first time. A smaller moment, but long-awaited by fans.
The Ship of Theseus
In the post-credits sequence of 'Previously On..' it is revealed that Hayward has used a sample of Wanda's Chaos magic to resurrect Vision's original body as a colourless husk of his former self. This White Vision is initially an antagonist in the series finale, until, mid-battle, Hex-Vision distracts him with a philosophical discussion on the Ship of Theseus.
After Hex-Vision unlocks White Vision's repressed memories, White Vision decides he IS Vision and flees Westview. This sets up for VisionQuest, the final entry of the WandaVision trilogy.
Wanda vs Agatha
Agatha, believing Wanda to be undeserving of her Chaos Magic, attempts to take it from her. She almost succeeds, until Wanda outsmarts Agatha by casting Runes around Westview, a trick Agatha unintentionally taught her in episode seven. Within the runes, only Wanda can use her magic. Taking back the power Agatha stole, Wanda fully ascends as the Scarlet Witch.
Like so much of WandaVision, seeing Wanda embrace her magic, and get a brand new suit, is an iconic moment, and a great resolution to one of the series main conflicts. It also teases Agatha's early comic role as Wanda's mentor, even if Wanda actually learning to use Runes was unintentional on Agatha's part.
Happy five years, WandaVision!
