In Defence of 'The Secret Life of Walter Mitty'
By writing a defence of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, I'm not saying that I moderately enjoyed watching this movie and think audiences were a little too hard on it: I love this movie, I have unapologetically included it on my favourite films of all time list. I don't think this is just a personal gem or "guilty pleasure," I think this movie holds a wealth of value that audiences have failed to see. Am I saying it is a perfect movie? Absolutely not. I admit, there are many problems with the execution of this film, but that's part of what makes this film so endearing: It is deeply flawed; just like every person you have ever loved, but that doesn't stop you from loving them, does it?

Very British Thrillers
Chances are you've heard of James Bond and George Smiley. You might even have heard of their creators, Ian Fleming and John le Carré. Have you heard of Alistair MacLean, Alan Hall, Francis Clifford, Ted Allbeury, Ian Stuart Black, or James Mayo? All of them were part of an explosion in the thriller genre headed by British authors over a twenty odd year period between the 1950s and 1970s, a period which the noted writer and critic Mike Ripley now examines with his book Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (itself a paraphrasing of a Fleming quote in fact) which explores this very British contribution to an ever popular genre.

What Has Happened to the Film Industry?
My grandma took me to my first movie when I was about five years old. I think it was Beauty and the Beast. I was ecstatic. I loved Disney and being able to see a big movie like that was an amazing experience. Since that day, I have developed an interesting relationship with movies. It’s weird to say, but I can perfectly quote most movies I’ve seen. Not just the lines, but I can do it down to what accents are being used. I don’t understand it, but it makes people laugh. I’ve watched how types of movies have changed over the years. I have to say, I’m not exactly thrilled at the idea of remaking EVERY SINGLE MOVIE THAT HAS EXISTED. To be honest, most modern movies don’t interest me at all. There’s no substance to them and there’s no creativity.

'Hamilton' Finally Comes to London
Earlier this month, I was lucky enough to go to the second preview of Hamilton which officially opened at the Victoria Palace theatre in London on 21 December. I had wanted to see Hamilton live since I first heard the soundtrack of the original Broadway cast a year and a half ago. I had never heard anything like it. The idea seemed strange — a hip hop musical about the founding father Alexander Hamilton — and yet it worked so well. It was innovative, daring, and brilliant. Every song was so strong and I longed to see it performed live on stage.

Best Films of the 1950s Everyone Should Watch at Least Once
It was the decade of Cecille B. DeMille, John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder ,and William Wyler, when every film, especially those on this list, felt like widescreen epics – and many of them were movies so sweeping in their ambition and scope, in the magnitude and magnificence of their storytelling, that you couldn’t help being swept away. Here are a dozen of the best films of the 1950s, in reverse alphabetical order, the ones I think it’d be a crime to miss if you want to drink a deep draught of a golden age for American cinema.

New 'X-Men: The Dark Phoenix' Photo Shows a Beaten Magneto
So as you may remember, there was a movie that came out last year called X-Men: Apocalypse, which was about the 600th movie released in the massively popular X-Men franchise. While the movie divided critics and fans, it was enough of a success to warrant a sequel getting the green light, which was announced to be none other than X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

#CarrieOnForever: A Year Since We Lost Carrie Fisher
I took #CarrieFisher's death hard, as so many people did. December 27th, 2016. It wasn't until I became an adult that I gained true appreciation for Carrie Fisher. When I was a kid, she was just Princess Leia from Star Wars, and at around ten years old and a staunch tomboy (I prefer the term "strong female" now, thanks), I just did not get her appeal. In looking back, I suppose that it only makes sense that I didn't really "get" Carrie Fisher or her significance to women then—I was, after all, only ten, and had only gotten into Star Wars within the last two years before that, having been only four when A New Hope first came out and shook the stratosphere.
