5 Best New Movies on Netflix in August 2020
Project Power Netflix’s batch of original action movies is pretty hit-and-miss so far, with a tendency to fall in the “yeah, I guess that was ok” zone. They’ve had a bit of a hot streak this year with Extraction and The Old Guard, both flawed films that I still enjoyed immensely, and the trailer for their newest A-list actioner Project Power looks like it might just be extremely my shit. For one thing, it’s damn good to see Joseph Gordon-Levitt back in action on screen after his welcome return with Amazon’s thriller 7500, and he’s got a better-than-average track record when it comes to picking the right scripts.

Best Comedy Shows on Netflix
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Listen, we all miss 30 Rock. That gloriously offbeat tone and pitch-perfect cast made for one of television’s all-time greatest sitcoms, and it will never be replaced. However, the Netflix original series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is the next best thing. 30 Rock showrunners Tina Fey and Robert Carlock turn their attention to a “fish out of water” story as Kimmy Schmidt follows Ellie Kemper’s titular character, a woman who was held captive for years in an underground bunker and is now trying to start her life anew in New York City. Not only is the show genuinely hilarious, carrying flourishes of the same snappy goofiness that made 30 Rock so much fun, but the series simultaneously works perfectly as a sexual assault survivor story, making it all the more bold and impactful. First and foremost, though, it’s incredibly funny, with Tituss Burgess turning in a genuine breakout performance. And you’ll have the theme song stuck in your head forever.

Wonderstorm Animated Series 'The Dragon Prince' Renewed for Four More Seasons
Fans of the Wonderstorm-produced The Dragon Prince, an animated fantasy series, have gotten their wish and more. The series made its debut on Netflix in September 2018 and has gained a loyal following, with some perceiving it as a spiritual successor to the beloved Avatar: The Last Airbender. Even setting aside the fact that it was co-created by Avatar: The Last Airbender head writer and executive producer Aaron Ehasz, as well as the fact that Sokka voice actor Jack DeSena voices Callum here, The Dragon Prince has a similar type of humor that complements the fleshed-out world that it inhabits.

For Better or (Mostly) Worse, ‘The Kissing Booth 2’ is More of the Same
2018 was a big year for Netflix as they finally began to figure out their original content production formula. Specifically, producing as many romantic comedies as humanly possible. From To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before to Set It Up to even The Kissing Booth, Netflix finally realized a portion of the moviegoing audience was severely underserved in theaters and on other streaming services. It’s fair to say this was also the first leg in the Netflix star machine, with actors such as Noah Centineo, Lana Condor, Zoey Deutch, Glen Powell, Jacob Elordi, and Joey King all increasing their fame drastically.

10 Great Netflix Original Series: Sci-Fi & Fantasy
Netflix has some pretty great shows to offer and they have been coming out with some really good sci-fi and fantasy shows. Here are some good ones that I have enjoyed binge-watching! I had to do the main picture of Henry Cavill as Gerald because, I mean, look at him.

Best Animated TV Series on Netflix
Attack on Titan Despite having wrapped its second season last summer, only Season 1 of Attack on Titan is currently available on Netflix. Perhaps Season 2 will arrive in its entirety on the streaming-content platform once Season 3 of the hit anime series arrives with new episodes this July. That should give viewers, new and old, plenty of time to get caught up on the story so far. And it’s a crazy one. Attack on Titan follows Eren Yeager and those around him who comprise the last vestiges of humanity in an era when gigantic humanoids known as Titans feast on their smaller kin. There’s a lot more mystery than answers provided throughout Attack on Titan‘s storytelling, but that’s what makes the experience so engrossing. Season 1 introduces the world and the rules that govern it while quickly teaching viewers not to get too attached to any one character; they might just be gobbled up in an instant. Season 2 deepens the mythology more and actually starts to answer some questions before revealing some absolutely stunning twists and turns. It’s a sometimes gruesome, sometime silly series, but it’s a must-watch nonetheless.

My Review of "Desperados"
Desperados kind of came out quietly on Netflix. That's the case with a lot of Netflix exclusives especially during the pandemic. I barely heard any press on it but luckily enough it was suggested by Netflix to me. It kind of has the same feel as the movie The Wrong Missy even though the movies are pretty different from one another.

‘The Old Guard’ Kicks Ass and Should Make Names
Netflix’s record with original Hollywood action movies is patchy at best. When the so-so Extraction is among the finer examples of their big-name blockbusters, there’s something not working. With The Old Guard, though, they might hopefully have found a game-changer. It’s everything that previous A-lister action vehicle 6 Underground wasn’t. Where that was incoherent, chaotic, and offensively dumb, The Old Guard is focused, sharp, and surprisingly intelligent.

The Best Fantasy Shows on Netflix
The Witcher The Witcher is an absolute blast and a half. The fantasy series is indeed very fantasy—it’s more Lord of the Rings than Game of Thrones—but it also doesn’t take itself too seriously and whole-heartedly embraces all aspects of fantasy storytelling and gaming, including fun side-quests, POV battles, and even a bard who follows Henry Cavill’s titular human/creature hybrid around singing songs about his glories. The show’s first season follows three stories destined to converge: Cavill’s Witcher is a muscle-for-hire monster hunter who begins to question why so many princesses have been turning into creatures; Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) is a powerful sorceress in training who struggles to keep her emotions in check; and princess Ciri (Freya Allan) is on the run after the sacking of her city, but harbors secrets of her own. Steeped in lore and world building but always engaging, The Witcher is a perfect kind of binge-viewing show.
