Moonlight Sonata
Years Travelled: 1,453 Total Distance: 5,690,820,332,193,400 km Throughout the time I have been overseeing the USS Starbounder, I have been fulfilling my purpose. Engine functions have been stable, navigation has not suffered miscalculations, and the 2,000 humans sleeping on board have remained safely in hibernation. The primary objective of my mission was to reach the Alpha Centauri star system, where, long ago, humans had identified a promising planet through their telescopes. I arrived in the star system today and located the coordinates of the planet, but all I found was empty space. Its solar system had collapsed the way scientists had predicted Earth’s would. The planet had met its end.

The Assignment
The Assignment D. A. Ratliff I woke up in Paris, not knowing if this would be the best or worst day of my life. Dawn lit the city sky outside the hotel room where I had spent the last three days posing as a wealthy vineyard heiress from Reims. There was a plot to kidnap the young heiress, Lucie Boudoin, and I had taken her place as bait. For my first assignment, being bait was stressful, but I had to admit it was a bit of an adrenaline rush.

Specifically, the sodium gates that evoke action potentials and synapses, flooding neuroreceptors who won’t even see them coming.

Fate/Choice
Swarmed by the crazed horde, Murphy and I were both taken prisoner before we had the chance to blink. I tried to fight, but my arms were being held down with so much force I feared they would break if I strained them. It was useless. They were too strong, too mean, and too many.

Starting Over Part 2. Content Warning.
Be advised, this piece includes some graphic descriptions of abuse. Ella has lived in this small town for 5 years now. In those 5 years she made 2 friends. Charlie was the one neighbor to greet her and bring her a pie on the day she moved in. Ella nearly cried at the gesture, she thought it was so sweet and neighborly. Charlie was the one and only friend she had until their partner beat them to death. At Charlie's funeral, Ella met David. David and Charlie were childhood friends; he had just moved back into town the day before Charlie died. He hadn't even gotten to see Charlie before their death. He was devastated and often sought out Ella for a shoulder to cry on. They quickly became best friends in the months following Charlie's death. Ella could see herself settling down with David; it would be so easy. But ever since Ella was in middle school, she knew she was a lesbian. David figured, but still tried to give it a shot and kiss her one night anyway after too many vodka cranberries.
