In the hallway of his house, he had a big mirror, although he seldom used it, it was just there, above the hall table.

One day, he looked and he noticed something strange, the reflection wasn't the hallways at all, but a dark bedroom. He could see a bed and a window, but he couldn't see what the window looked out on.

The room was lit but seemed dark, and then the sheets on the bed moved and the face of a child appeared hooded in the sheet. Its eyes were red, and frightened him. He then realised he could not see himself in the mirror.

Then, without warning, the room in the mirror disappeared, and he saw himself and the reflections of the hallway. He felt scared but relieved.

What was that room?

Who was the horrible child?

Now every morning before he left, and when he returned home for work, he looked in the mirror and only saw himself and the hall decorations.

He was still a bit worried and decided to do a little research. You could find out a lot of things at the library and on the internet.

He found out that there had been a mansion where his estate had been built, and it was demolished after the child had murdered its parents, stabbing them while they slept. The child was found wandering outside in a bloodstained nightgown, carrying two knives.

When as why it had murdered its parents, the child said, "They deserved it".

It never said any other words, only "They deserved it", until it died in Broadmoor.

He thought he had seen the child in the room in the mirror.

He was still wary each time he passed and decided to take the mirror down, smash it and throw it in the bin and replace it with a landscape painting.

That was the end of that.

One morning, he walked past the painting, before work, and something had changed ...........

I absolutely loved your ending. What a cliffhanger. Mirrors kind of creep me out anyway so this was a perfect story to get my heart racing. Well done.

It seems as though he’s just going to want to move. Nicely written, nice and creepy with a bit of mystery to it.
