In Strange Trees

A Tale Inspired By The Woods I Saw From The Bus On Richardson Road, Newcastle And The Image 'Ghost Over the Trees' By Franz Sedlacek

'Ghost Over the Trees', Franz Sedlacek, c.1926

Introduction

This image from The Enchanted Booklet has been haunting me for a while. I don't know the artist or the story behind it, but combined with a strange wood that is close to my home, I saw a story.

This is the source:

The music is "In Dark Trees" by Brian Eno

In Strange Trees

This wood is a strange, dark place, and the trees here seem to ooze death. If you have to walk through, you can feel cold fingers of fear clutching your heart, but you never see anything.

Some say that this was planted on a heretics' burial ground to help the world forget about their denial of God, but the spirit of the heretics have possessed the trees and try to steal the souls of any good person who wanders near this wood.

Sometimes the heretic spirits win, and the good person wandering becomes a ghost and then floats above these strange trees, until the wind disperses what is left of the good person's ghostly spirit.

If you see these strange trees, keep away, or you will lose your soul and be forever damned.
