The raucous fracas!

The raucous fracas!
Not again!
Shouts and yells — worthy of any footy crowd — split my tranquil Sunday afternoon. What a raucous fracas! I wait a beat… a brief reprieve, before another sound wave breaks over me.
Blearily peering through my curtains, I spy an energetic, writhing tangle of limbs across my fence. Round ninety-seven — clearly in full swing! Raised voices mingle with sporadic bursts of laughter.
Neighbourhood youngsters rendezvous next-door for yet another rowdy afternoon. 44 Home, they call it… and don’t they love it! One kid grabs another’s shirt… surely it will rip! Bodies launch towards Home Base; punches are angrily lobbed; backslaps exchanged… reset and start again.
At least they’re off the streets... not doing drugs!
My neighbourhood…
I wouldn’t live anywhere else!

Fracas: noun: a noisy disturbance or quarrel
Origin: from early 18th century Italian fracassare ‘make an uproar’ and French fracasser.
Fracas: singular and plural
😵💫
Connection: I love the sound of raucous fracas… largely because my family are often loud, but not obnoxious (I trust)!
I’m less than keen on actual rowdy brawls!
Living on acreage provides a necessary welcome buffer between neighbours… we appreciate their rooster crowing and they weather our occasional noisy but good-natured backyard and board games. What’s a bit of happy noise between friends neighbours! Right?

Love this, Angie! What a great word and micro! Just had a large Thanksgiving gathering that was probably considered quite a raucous fracas 💥
This was fun and had a nostalgic feel to it Angie!! Nicely done!
What a fun read- loved it!
This made me smile! We call our crew "the loud crowd" when all the kids get together! Cute story.

Fracas is a great word! Loved the sense of humor and fun in your story, Angie!
I especially enjoyed your word history. I find word origins interesting.
That was a fun and informative read. I would have guessed the word origin was Spanish. Don't ask me why, lol. Great entry, Angie!
Great story and I’ve learned a new word!
Great fun! Love those happy sounds. I thought for a minute it was going to be about roosters chasing people and that makes me laugh, too. Agree with Rachel :)
I love reading your stuff because it always leaves me with a wholesome feeling afterwards. I like it.
I , too grow up in a family like that 🙂
