The Place On The Hill
For The Vocal "500 Word Shockwave" Challenge

They always wondered about it, what it was, that place on the top of the hill. There were lots of suggestions and theories but it was so far out of the village that no one ever visited to find out what it was.
It was ramshackle and someone had obviously built it for some purpose, but that was never clear. It was odd that it didn't seem to have a way in, but the walls were not that high and half the roof was missing.
It had been there since everyone could remember and was a distant mystery. Some said it had been a shepherd's hut, but there had never been any sheep or livestock around there and the land was bare with just scrub but nothing could feed on it.
Maybe it had been put up as a walker's shelter or a lookout post for some medieval warlord.
It was just there.
Then three lads decided they would go and find out what the place was and if there was anything interesting there. Maybe they would take some beers and camp out overnight there, although the top of that hill was always hit by the wind and weather.
On The Hill
The first lad climbed the wall, which was easy enough and dropped onto the floor, which was strange, and seemed to be made of frosted glass, but solid enough.
1: "Come on in, look at this, it is so weird"
The other two climbed the walls and dropped onto the glass floor and they agreed this was strange. Why the hell did this place have a frosted glass floor at the top of an isolated hill? They all looked at each other, then at the floor, then back at each other. They were confused.
Then the floor cracked and shattered and they fell.
They hit the ground and dazed looked up to see a grinning horned creature who greeted them thus:
Creature: "Welcome to Hell boys, I am Beelzebub, pleased to meet you. Don't look so worried this is just a game we play with God to get the most souls. You may not realise it, but you have come to the best place, we have the best music, the best food, the best TV, the best sport, and the best of people, that's why you are here. If you had gone to heaven it's all harps, wings and boring hymns and psalms with meals of unleavened bread"
1: "But what about the really bad people?"
Creature: "They're locked in rooms and forced to watch party political broadcasts and QVC infomercials forever, but you can do what you want now, but you can never go back and tell anyone otherwise they would all want to come"
They were shocked but set off into Hell looking for fun and beer, however, anyone else coming to the place would have found a rucksack of beer and if they climbed the wall they would have seen a strange frosted glass floor.

Welcome home, boys!
A great story Mike. I love your satirical take on hell and political torture. Very imaginative. Hell may not be such a bad place to go to after all.
Oh no, now you have exposed the secret, lol. But honestly, I did not see that coming. Awesome story!
Party political broadcasts and infomercials - Yep! That sounds like hell!!
👍
Well, that's one "hell" of a story
Great take on the challenge. The music is a great touch, too.
The music matched the story nicely.
Ahh yes! The.punishment for the bad people is on point. 😁
So, this was your idea of the afterlife! 😅
What a view of Hell this would be if true, but who knows. You do have quite the imagination. Good job.
Very well written, congrats 👏
The opening was a mystery, but you’ve given us enough detail to make us want to know what’s going on. A shepherds hut without a shepherd and without sheep’s, the mind of the people reaching conclusions that they could not see. Introduced to three characters, then hit with a possible shake to their reality. Ooo I am liking this even more now. 😳 oh no, are they okay… 👀 Best not to tell them then. Everyone should not have what we have lol, then it won’t be as nice. The punishment for the bad people is so brutal mwahahahahaaa!!! This was shocking and captivating. You made great use of the 500 word limit, I was entertained. Well done Mike, awesome work! 👏🏽
Wow, abandoned houses may hold more than we realise. Has a Blair Witch quality!
I’m going to start exploring more abandoned houses. I got to check them for hell portals’! Great work!
