The House Under The Stairs

A Tale Inspired By An Imaginative Doll's House

By Mike Singleton πŸ’œ Mikeydred Published 2 months ago β€’ 1 min read

Introduction

This is a tale inspired by the dollshouse in our holiday apartment in Hebden Bridge. The music is "See Through Windows" by Family from "Music In A Doll's House", and there is a basic Instagram video that I took.

The House Under The Stairs

This is where the tiny people live. Are they imps, sprites or something else? No one knows. This is their palace, but we never see them.

Do they see us? No one knows that either, but they probably find ways to hide from humans.

We know they are there, we can see their house, a lap of luxury, from the basement door to the attic bathroom, but we never see them.

They must treasure their secrecy and are rightly suspicious of humanity.

What would a human do if they found a tiny person? They would try to capture them and do them great harm.

Humans are the most destructive creatures that have ever existed.

The tiny people protect their mansion with magic. Humans see it but never touch it; they just admire it.

That is the way it will always be...

I really like this little story. Maybe the little people are looking after the big people for a reason that is why we can't see them, but they see us and we imagine when we see their home. Hope this makes some sense. Good job.

  • Humans for sure are the most destructive creatures. Loved your story!

This is such a charming concept. I love how you capture that sense of unseen magic and the idea that the tiny people protect their world from us.

Hey, My elder sister used to read them to me, and as I grew up, my love for stories only got stronger. I started with books, and now I enjoy reading on different writing platforms. Today, I came here just to read some stories, and that’s when I found your writing. From the very first lines, it caught my attention the more I read, the more I fell in love with your words. So I just had to appreciate you for this beautiful work. I’m really excited to hear your reply!

This is a cute little story. It reminds me of a movie I watched as a kid called FairyTale: A True Story about the Cottingley Fairies photos.
