Dean realized the other day that he’s finally okay with Cas healing him again, physically. Cas explained what he meant when he said Dean had humanized him. How the first thing Dean wanted, even if he didn’t remember Cas in The Pit, was to name him. Sure, Anna had called him Cas but Cas had taken to the nickname out of a longing and a yearning to be Dean’s before he understood fully; because that’s a human thing to do. To yearn for something that he only knew of a human desiring was a desire to be humanized and by someone he loved.

They don’t leave the bunker aside from meal runs for days, but Cas is becoming amazed at how Dean is quite affectionate in public. He’s taken to reaching for Cas at all times like a fish to water. Dean doesn’t seem to be bothered at all when the occasional person looks at them with curiosity or disdain. It’s a far cry from what Dean is like when they’re alone, which Cas can’t help but see as strange. They still haven’t fulfilled the requirements to perform the grace kisses effectively because they still haven’t had penetrative sex. Dean always finds something else to do or wants to service Cas’ member.

Cas is happy, akin to overjoyed. He’s in the passenger seat of Baby, their car with his beloved as the driver. Jack and Sam had decided to try (and succeed) in teleporting back to the bunker to test Jack’s new abilities. Amara seems to have given them some sort of boost, and in turn Jack restored Cas’ grace to its original state, keeping the crack in his chassis of course. Cas wouldn't feel right without it. Though he may venture into new clothing since Dean seems to currently be listing all the things he wants the pair to do together and getting new “getups” is on the list. At some point, he snaked his hand towards Cas’ neck in the car, to idly play with his hair. Cas took to that like a cat being pet under the chin. It felt...like sunshine. It made him feel safe even as a protector. It made him feel braver.

Lake of Souls Chapter 20
Previous Chapter Our journey to the life kingdom was uneventful. It only took the whale a couple of hours to bring us up to the border. Along the way I watched Filon sleep, ate a little of the rations Curant had brought us, and contemplated our journey so far. Against all odds we had managed to stabilize most of the world. Nothing was perfect or completely fixed but at least we were on the way to fixing it. Once we helped the life kingdom that would hopefully start helping all of the other kingdoms heal faster as well.
