A Series: Chapter 12
Let's Go All The Way by Sly Fox plays on the radio and Steve steps out of the Uber, his dress shoes feeling light as a feather when it touches the sidewalk. Larry and Warren soon follow him out, all of them wearing suits (minus ties) looking dapper on a Saturday. Each of them taking time to adjust their fits (watch straps, lifting the blazer collar, etc) before heading into the bar like movie stars. "Okay we should have gone to a club" Larry says looking around the bar which is completely empty "That's on me" not even the bartender in sight "And not at 4pm" Warren adds.

Halloween
Author's Note: At the end of this chapter, the main character, Claire, finds a book of poetry. The poem that she reads in the book is not a poem written by me. Instead, it is written by a fellow Vocal author, Melissa Ingoldsby. The poem, "Lost", is used with her express permission, though I have altered her name in the text of the novel. Her creativity deserves the honor of recognition. Thank you, Melissa!

All About My Bruises (pt 7/8)
CHAPTER EIGHT Four years later My life as a secret student wife of Sam was sapping me of strength. I was slimmer, leaning on the thin and a little on the sticky side. My eyeballs have sunken so into their socket that it was a miracle I was not simply blind. The bones on my shoulder could hold a full cup of water and I would be running and it would not pour away. My cheekbones stood as if to say to the world, "Here I am." I was now gawky. I did not mind as long as I get to have my degree in law. I drove all the way to Nsukka any day I have lectures, which was almost every day; I came back all the way to Enugu whenever the lectures were done. I have already formed the habit of waking up in the wee hours of the morning to get breakfast ready for Sam. I made his dinner right after I finish getting the things for my school ready. I would put the food in the microwave. When he has eaten and gone off to work, I got ready and drove off to school. fun stuff

Write In The Middle of It
Fear came over Mekayla and the warm water she was in seemed to instantly get cold. Her high was gone completely now and she began to tremble. She looked around her loft as she rose out of the tub slowly, this time grabbing a body towel from a basket to cover herself. For what seemed like several moments she held the phone to her ear silent as she stepped out of the tub.

Assassins High School
How fitting that my name be associated with death considering how I seem to cause it to everyone around me. Even as a child, death followed me, as it was in my blood. I took my first life before I was even a day old. My mother died soon after I was born. The pressure from the labor weakened her heart so much that it gave out. My father kept no pictures of her around because that pain was too much. He named me Elizabeth Tessa Moreau which sounds innocent enough but he named me after one of the first female serial killers. My mother, whose name was Lorain, picked it out. She thought the name of a killer might help me in this life. Both of my parents were assassins.

The Suppression
"Jared," there was something familiar about that name, like a memory that refused to show itself. It lingered in Tamara's mind haunting her. She could almost pull the images of the memory just for it to slip through her fingers. There was a lot of memories she had not been able to pull forward ever since the accident. It was like her mind placed a locked door between the life she lives and the life she lived. However, his name was too familiar. A tap on the shoulder pulled Tamara from her own thoughts. “We need to stop, the kids can not keep going like this.” She turned and look at the group behind her, dirt covered them from head to toe as exhaustion was written all over their faces.

Project Paladin
“Sector 6 has been dealt with, moving onto Sector 7”, Jaime speaks quietly into his shoulder. Alex, DB and Jonna walk slowly behind him. All wearing the solid black battle armor, head covered with a red-light eye hole which programs images to show the soldiers what is infront and around them.

Hidden Places (Part 14)
Previously, in Part 13 That damned granddaughter of mine has certainly gotten us into a predicament this time. You know, I try to stay out of Vance’s business where the girls are concerned. Ariela adored him for a reason—he’s a good man with a stout heart and plenty of love to give. He worshiped the ground my daughter walked on, and the pain of her loss is always with him.

6. Killing Fields
Chapter 6 “Amal wake up,” a girl yelled, her hands clutching at his shoulders, “It’s time.” Instinctively, Amal sprung up and overtook her into a chokehold, where a knife, appearing out of nowhere, was aimed at her throat. “Wai- stop it’s me, Jasmine,” Jasmine cried, her eyes wide with terror, coughing. Amal dropped his knife, leaving it on a nightstand, and freed Jasmine from the chokehold. “Wrong way to wake someone up Jas,” Amal said, standing up.
