Northern lights

Entire barren ground was covered with thick snow, and the sky was twinkling with animated stars, aurora lights were dancing in the sky. This was the scene that a 15 years old girl named Bella was watching on her favourite cartoon Tv show, when she first got stunned by northern lights.

She felt everything little more deeper than people around her, ever since she saw those mystical lights on the Tv they got stuck in her mind. She couldn’t stop thinking about them. She took her dad’s phone and googled “green lights in the north side” because she was unaware of what they are , and that day she saw how those magical lights looked in real .

She got so obsessed , that her daily journals were about auroras know. Her bucket list got replacements, and 1) swimming with whales got replaced by seeing northern lights in person now. She used to visualize in her mind about the day when she will actually be able to fulfill her dream. Time passed, and she turned 20 .

She moved to Canada for her higher studies from India. She chose Canada because she knew that it is her best option considering its location to view auroras . She was in Vancouver for almost 2 years now, and every time when that time of year came when she had best chances to see those lights in Vancouver, which is usually in winter and late springs, she used to go crazy over finding them somehow , going away from the city , without a car, constantly checking forecasts just for that one magical moment she thought she’d have.

she was all by her self in Vancouver so couldn’t afford to fly to a place where chances of seeing auroras were high . She started loosing hope, and as it kept on happening she kind of started believing that this dream of her’s will stay a dream forever. She got on with life , but now she felt dead inside . She even stopped thinking about it anymore.

She fell in love with a guy at work, it turned into a beautiful relationship. Time passed , and Bella came to know that that guy ( Oliver) was working for an airline , and he offered her to go for a trip to Yellowknife with him . She said yes , they both left.

As they landed their, and proceeded for securities they got told that non essential travel to this place is paused, and that they have go back taking the next available flight. All the plans got flopped, luckily the plane tickets were free as Oliver worked for the airline they flew with. Bella and Oliver tried to and were successful in convincing the officers for one night stay in the hotel they booked in order to book the next flight tomorrow, but they were prohibited from leaving the hotel.

The trip was supposed to be 3 days as according to forecast solar activity which causes the aurora lights was considerable to form northern lights that day. They both were now little relieved knowing at least they could stay there for one night, but bella had lost the entire hope of seeing the magic lights because she has been running to chase them for so long but was a fail, and now when she was here with a strong chances of seeing them, they got stopped from staying.

They had their dinner, and it was about -35degree Celsius outside no body was outside. all cloudy according to the online forecast. Time was about 7 pm, they decided to watch some TV , when suddenly a notification popped up , “saying your chances of seeing northern lights are increasing, you can see northern lights in 30 mins”. OH MY GOD! How should i describe the feeling that Bella was experiencing at that time, she was excited but insecure due to her past experiences. the dominant thought she had was that “ i know this also is going to be a failed attempt”.

On being compelled by Oliver, they both dressed up for the cold and went outside, again as always there was nothing . Oliver decided to walk a little with her girlfriend and they took about 50 steps from where their hotel was, waaaaaaoooohhh!! Oliver shouted while looking up, Bella’s vision got blurred due to the fog on her glasses , she took them off cleaned them, wore them and looked up.

Complete stoping of the world around her happened, she was hearing her heartbeat and couldn’t believe her own eyes, she was on the side walk, she sat there . Bright green , twinkling, dancing like a wave northern lights were right above her. It was like a dream. Like universe conspired to make it happen exclusively for her.

She got up after about 10 mins , decided to walk to an empty ground nearby , the lights kept following her. Seriously magical. It was like the lights were waiting for her more than she was waiting for lights. She experienced them for as long as she was at the verge of freezing.
