THE FOLLOWING WAS EXTRACTED VIA THE SCIENCE OF NUMEROLOGY. METHODOLOGY: What follows was extracted by sequencing together every 5th letter from the book of Genesis, and moving 2 letters back, listing the numerical placement of said letters in the alphabet, multiplying by the numerical placement of the next vowel, then picking the letter coming the closest in whole numbers to the square root of the alphabetical numerical placement of the answer. The punctuation could only be guessed at. And there may be some tense disagreement, which is still being studied.

The Selfless Room. Top Story - August 2024.
The new entrant to my group forgot to leave phones at the door. Our project of the moment was a locket that, when worn, could make someone so sad that they forget about all loved ones. Our task was to hover around, a halo of no person, and focus on the troublesome aura to relocate to a secure capsule. As the force moved, a call buzzed from a pocket. The curse must have dashed to the phone. The locket was unburdened, but we were not successful. The phone screen flashed, a grad photo of a boy flanked by two parents. My breath caught.

The conquest
: The day started with excitement. The whole kingdom was gathered as the chosen were called to the altar where they would place their hands on the crystal stones—mystical relics that glowed when touched by someone with magic. One by one they stepped forward, put their hands on the stones. The crowd cheered every time a stone lit up, meaning magic was present.

The Sales Champion
I had no specific reason to visit the exhibition, but then again, fortunately, I seldom need one. This time I would use the fact that it would be raining cats and dogs soon, and I wanted to stay dry today as my excuse. There was really nothing there for me as a writer since it seemed to be some kind of building materials expo. But then again, maybe I could use some of the latest new materials in one of my stories. That's one of the advantages of being a writer: we can show up anywhere, anytime, just by saying "There could be a story in this." And the crazy thing is that most people tend to believe it, often trying to make us feel more than welcome! Even if their stuff is utterly boring, it seems they need or at least want to believe someone else might be interested in it. I once was even heartily welcomed at a bookkeepers' reunion class. My excuse for that one was the bitter cold, as I remember correctly.

Unopened letter
The sky was always a brilliant blue. A letter—just sitting there, unopened, on the kitchen countertop. Armino’s collar jingled as he sniffed around the half-heartedly packed cartons, searching for any hint of his absent owners, but the house was quiet. The drooping ferns and wilted Calathea plants—she had forgotten they ever existed. His muddy shoes, caked with the grime of untrodden paths, rested by the door, with several illegally purchased 5-milligram Percocet pills crushed beneath them. The wind chimes hung motionless today. A shattered vase lay neglected on the floor. Their laughter had once inundated this cozy, dimly lit space. The faded sepia-toned Polaroid of their first vacation together was now crumpled and discarded in the trash.

The Cursed
We cursed them, the massed enemy of the free peoples. The ones who placed the wretched challenge before us. The ones who laughed to see us struggle and fall. "Screw them, screw you, and screw the vocal morons who thought that such a plan would be funny!"

Terminal Goodbye
The boy reclined by the sweeping glass panes, his gaze following the elegant arcs of aircraft slicing through the dusky sky. Outside, the world was a mosaic of motion—luggage trolleys meandering across the tarmac, passengers scurrying to their gates—but within him, time meandered at the pace of a melting sundial.
