The little boy stuck on a stone

When all things go wrong

By Abigail KoduaPublished 2 years ago 3 min read

Aiden was born in a remote village in the east of Africa.

As a boy with 6 sisters , his parents were very proud when they had him especially his father, Mr Nogo….. He finally saw himself as the man he was supposed to be after going through the torment of having only girls as his children. He finally had someone to carry his surname for future generations.

At least he thought to himself “my generation will not end here”. Mrs Nogo too became very proud and finally knew she was going to be at peace and not at the mercies of her in-laws who only shamed here for eating her male sons which brought her pain and suffering.

At the naming ceremony of Aiden Nogo , he was gifted with a lot of things which neither of the girl children before him had ever received. This made him grow into a very proud boy…

At the age of 3 , Aiden started to show signs of arrogance and stubbornness but it was attributed to him being a child and that he will grow from it. Mrs Nogo was also scared to really punish the child in fear that he would end up hurt or would say he will not eat the food she had prepared. And with this in mind and the fear of angering her husband she would always let Aiden go and not punish him.

She hoped and prayed her son will turn out good even though she saw the signs . She always hoped that he will change as he was growing up. Aiden became a menace at the age of 5 . He will disrespect his elder sisters and not get punished for it because his father always said he was the man of the house.

Mr. Nogo made sure all his female daughters ( all six) went to school to only the primary level telling them it was enough for them to read and write and that they will soon get married anyways and have kids. Hence, being housewives did not require a lot of education for Mr Nogo . Mr Nogo was not willing to spend that amount of money, time and resources into kids who will be taken away in the future and even have their names changed. With that, high school was out for all his female kids and were married off first thing after they were done with their primary level.

Due to that, with this in mind, Mr . Nogo was glad to have a son who he will not only invest in educationaly but also mentally and who will carry his last name in pride.

As Aiden grew he was continually spoilt and pampered. Not only that Aiden hated going to class . He always went for the first period, marked attendance and headed out with his friends to play games, catch birds and watch the girls at the stream and pluck the neighbors mangoes. More often he was reported to his mother but she could do nothing. She knew her husband will not listen to her and Everytime she tried , it only led to a fight.

One hot afternoon, Mrs Nogo came back from the farm and saw her son. Aiden eating the food she had reserved to eat with his friends whiles his food was already served in his bowl. Mrs Nogo was furious and chased them with a cutlass. This made Aiden very angry as he felt his mother had embarrassed him before his friends. With that in mind he refused to come home . Mr Nogo found out and beat his wife mercilessly and she gave up on Aiden for that reason. One day. Aiden go tired of class and went to the lakeside where he sat on a stone to wait for the girls. He had the shock of his life when he could not get up but was stuck. His parents found him after searching and built a house around him to avoid a wild animal from eating him.

His mom also told him to not open the door for anyone except her for the next few days because his father was traveling to find a solution. On the third day, Aiden go tired and open the door after hearing female voices singing and dancing. To his horror, they were the sirens who had come to eat him after hearing of him in the winds . They ate him and left his bones and blood for his parents.

The end.
