Easy Christmas Gingerbread
Of course, you probably know me very well for invading Vocal with my film studies stuff and articles entitled ‘a filmmaker’s guide’. I have often explained that I love to bake as well. Since I was young, I have loved the idea, the creativity and the relaxation of baking different things. I love to make macarons, layer cakes and gingerbread in particular and the activity of it really gets me away from my laptop (where I’m sure you know that I spend most of my life). So, I hope you enjoy me talking about what I bake and why I bake it complete with pictures (if not very good) of me actually baking, my baked goods in the process of being created and when they’re finished. I’m really happy to share this with you. And if you like, you can show me your baking (yes, I spend a lot of time writing, but I also spend a lot of time reading other people’s articles!), I would love to see it. Since I was in school, I was always interested in creating things, whether that be pieces of writing, welding things to make small statues or baking foods and making sweets (candy, if you’re American). I hope you enjoy looking at some of the stuff that has honestly kept me sane, because I seem to be going slightly mad.

A Halloween Recipe
Each year for Halloween there is a recipe that I make. It is actually a pretty simple recipe to make with very little ingredients to it. I take one full jar of smooth peanut butter to place in a microwave-safe bowl. Over the top of the peanut butter, I put one full jar of whatever kind of icing that I choose to use. This time I will go with the regular kind of vanilla icing. The entire bowl is then placed in the microwave for sixty to seventy seconds. The time depends on the type of microwave used. If making a bigger amount for more people it is better to add extra ingredients. It is always good to repeat the recipe if needed. This makes it a little easier to make more than one batch without worrying that there is not enough of something.

Molasses Popcorn Ball
I am old enough to remember growing up in a community where people gave out homemade treats on Halloween and parents used to actually let their children eat them. Back before parents were afraid of razer blades in candy apples and rat poison in homemade sweets, treats made with love and care and given to neighborhood kids were common place especially in rural America. Blame it on stranger danger or Geroldo Riviera style shock journalism, but the homemade treats given out on Halloween feel as distant now as adult Halloween parties that did not feature "sexy" costumes. Perhaps it is a false sense of nostalgia, but those homemade treats represented a sense of community that seems to be missing in modern America.

Fall/winter delicious treat recipe - caramelised chestnuts
Growing up I admired my moms personally engraved, full of exquisite and unpopular recipes book. This book was following us in every kitchen and house we lived in. My family loved to move from house to house, so this was something special.

Scrumdiddlyumptious Toffee Cookies
It’s the time of year when, if you live in Canada, the scarves are wrapped tighter, the beanies are dug out of the back of the closet, and I try to determine how many layers is too many layers (the answer is still unclear, but three seems decent).

Nutella-Stuffed Cinnamon Sugar Muffins
Muffins as soft as donuts, stuffed with Nutella, and topped with cinnamon-sugar—Oh My! What could be better? Quick to go together and quick to cook, these muffins are great for kids, coworkers, and the mailman at Christmastime. Unless you're very conservative with your Nutella—and where's the fun in that?—this recipe won't yield a full dozen muffins. But it's not called a tweakcipe (tweaked recipe) for nothing! Feel free to double, or triple, the recipe to fit your muffin needs. And who doesn't need muffins?

The Apple Cider Doesn't Fall Far From the Tree
Chapter 1: The Harbinger of Fall There is was on the shelf of the grocery store, packaged humbly in a translucent milk jug. Every year, that simple site excites me. Apple cider is, in my mind, the taste of pure fall, and a sure sign that my favorite season of the year is approaching. It's one of those few items that grocery stores only sell at one time of the year. In other words, apple cider is to fall as eggnog is to winter. And as much as I would love to enjoy that sweet taste all year long, there's something special about the exclusivity. If Christmas lights adorned houses all year long, they would no longer be Christmas lights, and if apple cider graced the shelves of grocery stores all throughout the year, it would lose its role as the harbinger of fall. There's a spark inside me each year the first time I see the apple cider jugs on the shelf.

Pizza mac and cheese
Pepperoni pizza meets macaroni and cheese in this super easy dish the whole family will love. Two awesome comfort foods in one! Last week, I asked some friends on Facebook “What ingredients do you love so much, that if you see it used in a recipe, you’ll want to make it?” It was a really funny thread. Not surprising, so many of my friends said chocolate or caramel. A close second was cheese. Nothing specific, just cheese, in general. Many others including myself said pasta. So I’d say this recipe for pepperoni pizza macaroni and cheese is perfect. It’s two classic comfort foods in one. Bonus that it’s super easy, quick, and only requires one pan. I was surprised that my kids loved this dish. I have a two year old daughter that’s very picky about her food. My son is 7 and he loved it that he wanted thirds and fourths. So it wasn’t a bad idea to try.

Fall Without Fire
My favorite thing about fall turning into winter is being able to cozy up by a fire... There is no feeling quite like crisp autumn air against your skin while smelling cedar burning in the fireplace- hearing the embers crackle. And nothing goes better with gathering around the fireside like s’mores. Who doesn’t love them? Marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers... YUM.

Better Things to Come
Fall has always been the season that I love most. Day after summer-day I endure the oppressive heat and suffocating humidity, until finally it comes in early October: I wake up and realize that there’s a lightness to the air, and an inexplicable ease of breath. As the day goes on I notice that the pregnant, mountainous clouds that normally usher in the afternoon’s storms have evanesced, and the sky rests - an undisturbed lagoon of cerulean.

Pretzel Hugs
There’s something about the little things that make you appreciate life more than you normally would. When it comes to food, I know what I like and I know what I don’t like even if I haven’t tried something because it includes an ingredient that I’m not fond of.
