I love cooking chicken feet - in a curry! But I enjoy eating it more... People who enjoy this, are those who generally like bone-in meals. To us, its like what popcorn is to you during a movie. Actually, you might as well give me chicken feet for the movie!

You'd probably never find this in a restaurant - I wondered what else is out there that's a purely home-cooked meal...

I have recorded cooking chicken feet once: https://youtu.be/Exdj1YFmJsE?si=P_jrOwTSsgyC--kV and some people who know, know what's up, but there were others that expressed blatant disgust. If you viewed my video, thank you in advance and please consider subscribing.

It got me thinking, some people enjoy oysters and others cannot even imagine it. Some people can't see themselves eating lamb but I can't imagine not eating lamb. I have to admit, I've eaten some pretty unconventional meals just because if it's a meal to somebody else, why not try it...

I DO love gelatinous foods in general. This is what chicken feet is to me. The nutritional value is great, not just for general health but also for skin, hair and nails. It is made up of predominately bones and cartilage. Many people deep fry it but I've never tried it that way. I prefer to slow cook it, to allow all those nutrients to become part of that broth. Of course, the spicier the better. I use many spices you will see in the link above: cumin, cinnamon, fenugreek and black cardamom to name just a few. Since it is a very bony meal, it might be considered a choking hazard, especially for kids.

FACTS

  • Of the total protein, 70% is collagen.
  • Good for pregnant women as chicken feet provides about 15% of daily value of folate required which prevents developmental issues of fetus.
  • Has great aging benefits as it increases skin hydration - it even reduces cellulite and reduces wrinkles. (It kinda works the way hyaluronic acid works... ladies, you know what I'm talking about.)
  • Good for bone health like healing from injuries or arthritis and joint pain. The collagen in chicken feet has capabilities to regenerate tissue!

There are other benefits but these are the ones passed down to me that I'm now sharing with the readers.

Some opinionated people might consider those who eat this meal, poor. But then again, we all measure wealth differently, I guess.

Below you will find all the ingredients I used.

RECIPE

After cleaning the chicken feet, you will need the following:

Oil, fenugreek seeds, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, star anise, black cardamom and cumin seeds. On medium heat, fry these until fragnant for a few minutes while tossing around.

Add and Fry chicken. Make sure to dry the chicken prior to adding in hot oil because the oil will splatter.

Add green chilies according to your heat preference and ginger/garlic paste.

One blended onion.

Salt.

Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, chili powder dried coriander leaves (fresh if you have).

One finely diced Roma tomato.

Add water to just cover the top of chicken but top up as necessary. Personally I prefer this dish with lots of gravy. Cover and reduce heat to low.

Add a couple of potatoes towards the end.

Black pepper.

Mix in a tablespoon greek yoghurt.

Add finishing spice: Garam masala.

Serve with rice or bread...

Please enjoy if you have been influenced to try chicken feet from this article. Long life to you all!

I would love to hear what you eat in your home that others generally consider strange. Feel free to comment below the article.
