Can homemade Be Worse than Store Bought?
Cookies, Cakes, and Everything in Between

I know you’re thinking, "how can anything homemade be worse than store bought? Well, give me a moment to explain. You see, each year millions take to the store to purchase ingredients for holiday gatherings and family outings. They purchase large bags of spices, flours, and sugars in hopes of preparing the best cookie their family has ever seen. They take to social media in an attempt to find the best recipe that will encompass all of the holiday love they have for food and family. They crack the eggs, pour the milk, stir the mixture and put it in the oven at 350 degrees.
They begin to text friends and become engrossed in holiday, office gossip and fun. They pick up the phone to converse about the holiday party and all the booze their co-worker drank before passing out while dancing on the table. They talk about their plans to fly out to another country the next year and which sites would be great to visit. They then look through the many shows on the tele to see what they've missed while at work. They continue to talk with co-workers while talking about their favorite actresses on their favorite show. The doorbell rings as the mailman puts a package on the doorstep from their favorite online clothier. They get the box and began to take out each beautifully sewn shirt. They marvel at the stitching and now would like to see how beautiful it would look on them. They try on the shirt with their favorite pant and shoes and prance in the front of the mirror. And for a split second they remember the holiday meal that was put in the oven, only to think, I can't smell it, so it mustn't be done. On to picture taking they go. Snapping photos of the new shirt with pairs of favorite shoes and earrings to fit their fancy. These photos end up on social media with caption You must love shopping! One of these post gets a lot of traction and they notice the comments that are being added. One commenter asks if they are okay, while others send big eyes looking around. As they began to see something strange is going on, a call from another friend comes through. This friend saw the picture and advised the smoke must be coming from the food in the oven.
After fanning the smoke, yelling at no one in particular, swearing loudly while promising to never cook again, they find themselves at an impasse. They open all the doors and windows in the house, but nothing could save the blackened cookies that were supposed to be with sugar and spice. The cookies cracked to the touch and smelled as if a barbeque had occurred in the oven. There was soot and a white powdery substance pilled on the bottom rack of the oven. And all for the love of cookies! After crying loudly because the rigor mortis of destroyed cookies set in, they made their way to the closest grocery store. After minutes of searching up and down the bakery aisle, they found a comparable cookie tray and decided this year to bring a simple store-bought cookie for dessert. Because that day homemade cookies were worse than store bought cookies. Wouldn’t you agree? So, the next time you decide to try to construct a holiday treat while living life unaware of the time needed to make it or eat a holiday treat made by a holiday guest, think of how many possible things that could have happened to get you those marvelous, store bought cookies.
