humanity
Humanity begins at home.
Bundjalung Country.
My sense of place is forever growing and expanding. Home is a thread that stretches and curls its way to new places, but it never unravels from those places in the past. Now and then I feel the pull of this thread, and places or moments in time that I deemed lost, somehow find their way back to me. This thread, my home, is inextricably linked to people and moments that have gone and passed. All these sentiments of home stem from Bungjalung country- my country, the Midginbil people.

A Mother's Thoughts
As a 29 year old female, in my mediocre life, the struggles I go through on a daily basis are a living nightmare. I’m not just talking about normal life stresses such as money, work or even if I am parenting my four children right. The struggles I speak of, are that of my relationship whereas I dream about going back home, to when I was an innocent, doe eyed, 7 year old little tom boy. I dream of when life was simple, where I only worried about finishing building the treefort in which I fell through the unstable floor my brother and I built. Dreaming about my horse crashing through the fence and running to the neighbors to where the grass was literally greener for him on the other side. Time for me to snap back to reality, Time to brace myself for what’s to come.

Treasure Hunt
When the events in this story were about to happen, Bo wondered what had gone wrong with his life plan; especially because everything was “fine”. He had a comfortable life and a healthy family, a good job and no debt. But the feeling that something was missing would not go away. Life was okay, but extremely boring. Nothing was wrong, yet his life felt dull. There was a constant pit in his stomach. Probably too much gluten, he thought.

It's Your Destiny
“Lexi, look over here. It's a tree frog.” Lilly, the youngest of the two loves animals. They were inseparable. Always Playing, always having fun. Lexi runs over to her sister to see the frog. “That's not a tree frog silly, it's a toad.” Lexi is a very intelligent 14 year old girl, who loves nature, history, science, and next to be an Loa in her family. The two sisters, along with Lexi’s best friend Gerry would walk down to the store at their corner mart, which is a popular place to shop in North Carolina. Their favorite place was the arcade underneath the store, only known to few, which helps to keep people from breaking in to steal the games and ATMs. They walked in and purchased their usual snacks. There was a new employee at the front counter, flirting with one of the customers. The kids grabbed their things and walked to the back stairwell and the knob wasn’t on the door. They weren’t used to seeing that there. And like all curious teens, Lexi opens the door and peaks in. “Lexi, that doesn’t look safe,” Gerry says. The lights were off. It was dark. Maybe she could just walk down to the light she knew that room like the back of her hand. She leaned in further and.. “Lexi….. Move AWAY FROM THE”…… Thud!

The sign is better
Picking up the small new black notebook and writing... I am grateful for.... The phone rings it is grandma again. She keeps forgetting that I can't help her like I used to. I wish it was different but the accident left me well, in this chair. Looking down at my little black notebook and thinking you helped save me from a life of self-pity. I am so glad I made a commitment to live a life of gratitude before the accident happened.

Stanley
Stanley was not supposed to live. His people say he was born sideways. His nephew said he was normal until he fell down the front steps. Others say his mother is paying for the way she lived by having a ‘retarded boy.’ They say it sweetly as not to be insensitive, but it’s all the same, all the theories of why Stanley is the way he is. I just know that when he came to live with me everyone around him had given up or was just too busy with life to care for him.

The Elderly, The strongest of our race.
Now, perhaps, I have a penchant for older folk. Perhaps? no, it's clear, I do. The generations that preceded our own have been privy to things we will never know, as we are to our own followers, the children in elementary & college right now.

Following My Father: San Francisco
My year off left me eager to embark on my college career. I had the break I wanted and sensed an urgent need to get on with my education. I enrolled at City College, and took buses and the Ocean Avenue streetcar to the campus to register.
