Stillness
Saturday morning. He sat idly in the dark leather wingback chair my mother bought for him years ago, its age evidenced by the cracked hide where his legs rested. Steam no longer rose from the coffee mug next to him and an almond puff pastry he usually enjoyed for breakfast lay untouched, not a single crumb tempted out of place. The morning sun beamed brightly into the room, and I knew it was time.

The Little Back Book

Alexis liked Davis because he would create the cutest balloons for her. Davis asked Alexis to wait a second while he ran to his car to grab a gift for her. It was a little black notebook. He said, "Whatever you do. Do not open this until you turn 18." Alexis smiled and gave

November 6, 2018, I was seriously injured at work. While furiously preparing our high-end grocery store cheese department for the Thanksgiving rush, I stepped on a haphazardly placed piece of metal shelving and slashed my left achilles tendon.

ASD Snapshot: Two Dogs
I am at Erik’s college and I cross paths with Marla, the free-spirited fortune teller. We immediately break into big smiles and hug. Marla isn’t really a fortune teller, but if you didn’t know, you would think she was. Her own son playfully calls her a cartoon character; and if she were one, she would be drawn in animated strokes, round, vibrant, small but large in presence.
