Brelen wasn’t sure if she wanted to engage in this journey to the south. It’s been so long since she’s set her feet on southern ground, after Ma’dir died it just wasn’t a priority anymore.
As she set looking out the window of the Amtrak train she couldn’t help but remember the last time she was in Louisiana. Being that it wasn’t a pleasant experience she set in disbelief as to how all this has happen. She didn’t even know her grandmother had a brother and now he wants to meet her but why after all these years. Ma’dir never spoke ill of Brelen’s mother or her death, and never mention why she never talked about her family all Brelen knew was she was a slaves daughter both white and black Indian descent.
The train pulls into dock. Everyone rushes to get off and claim their belongings. Brelen sits in her seat till she is the last off the train. As she walks to the exit she slightly steps one foot on the train and feel the warm air wrap around her as if it carried her other foot off the train, she felt at home.
Brelen pulls up in front of her grandmothers house and as she walks down the flower lined walk path she stops at a tree to see if her name is still where she wrote it so many years ago. She is startled by the feeling of a tall presence over her shoulders. She greets her grand uncle with a big hug “ It’s so good to meet you uncle Frank, How did you ever find me?” Says Brelen. “Well my beautiful niece.” He says as he pulls a little black note book out of his pocket. I found you information in Essie’s note book. She has stars by your name and it said my loving daughter. There was others listed but how your name appeared, I knew you must of been special to her. I started to ask other family members and they told me you was Cassie’s daughter. I’m sorry about what happen to your mother you was so young!” Frank had a look of sadness and grief on his face. Brelen grabs his hand “ It’s ok uncle Frank, it was a long time ago I don’t even remember my mother. Why did you bring me here?” Well, your grandmother left you her house and all the land to go with it. It was named A historical landmark and bought by the state in Louisiana when we couldn’t figure out who Brelen Mason was you’re rich baby girl!”
Brelen looks around and faints to the ground.
