American flamingos are known for their bright pink plumage and curved bills. They inhabit different regions in the Americas, among them the Caribbean, coastal areas in South America, and the Galapagos Islands. These elegant birds can be found in lagoons, estuaries, and saline lakes. American flamingos enjoy eating algae, aquatic plants, and small vertebrates.

Blue jays are North American birds. They have bright blue plumage and white face markings with distinctive black collars. These are medium-sized songbirds found across eastern and central parts of North America. Blue jays inhabit deciduous and mixed forests, urban parks, and suburban areas. They enjoy nuts, seeds, insects, and small vertebrates. Some of these birds remain in their areas year-round, while others migrate south for the winter.

Common kingfishers are a lovely sight in bright blue and orange plumage. These birds make their homes in Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa. They inhabit aquatic environments, among them rivers, lakes, and coastal areas. Common kingfishers love to dine on fish.

Golden pheasants are stunning birds native to the mountainous regions of Western China. These birds are known for their vibrant, colorful plumage. They inhabit dense forests, shrublands, and bamboo thickets. Golden pheasants enjoy dining on seeds, fruits, insects, and vegetation.

Hoopoes are birds known for their striking appearances and unique vocalizations. They have iconic crests, crowns of feathers, black and white feathers, and their distinctive “hoop hoop” calls. These birds can be found across Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa. They inhabit different habitats such as woodlands, savannas, and grasslands. Hoopoes dine on insects and their larvae, using their long bills to extract prey from the ground.

Hyacinth macaws are lovely birds known for their cobalt-blue plumage and large size. They are native to central and eastern South America, inhabiting humid forests, savannas, and palm groves. Hyacinth macaws enjoy dining on palm nuts and seeds but will also consume fruits.

Indian paradise flycatchers make their home across the Indian subcontinent and inhabit forests, woodlands, and gardens. They have white bodies and elongated central tail feathers streaming behind like ribbons. These birds dine on insects, often catching them mid-flight. Indian paradise flycatchers are known for their migratory behavior, with some populations undertaking seasonal journeys to escape harsh weather conditions.

Keel-billed toucans are lovely birds with black and yellow plumage and large multicolored bills. They are native to the tropical forests of Central and South America, inhabiting rainforests, woodlands, and lowlands. These birds eat insects, eggs, and small vertebrates.

Painted buntings are North American songbirds with bright and colorful plumage. (pictured above) The blue, green, and red hues make them beautiful. These small birds inhabit grasslands, shrubby areas, and coastal areas. They enjoy dining on seeds, insects, and fruits. Painted buntings migrate from their breeding grounds in the southern US to their wintering grounds in Central America.

Peafowls, or peacocks, are birds native to South Asia. They are known for their iridescent feathers in blue, green, and gold hues. Peafowl make their homes in a variety of habitats, including forests, savannas, and agricultural areas. These birds are omnivores and feed on insects, small mammals, reptiles, and plants.

Red-crested turacos are lovely birds found in sub-Saharan Africa. They are known by their bright green plumage, scarlet red crest on their heads, and crimson flight feathers. These birds prefer different habitats such as forests, woodlands, and savannas. Red-crested turacos dine on fruits, flowers, and leaves.

Rainbow lorikeets are brightly colored birds in blue, red, green, and yellow. They are native to Australia, Indonesia, and some Pacific Islands. These birds inhabit rainforests, woodlands, and urban environments. They enjoy eating nectar, pollen, and fruits.

Resplendent quetzals are impressive-looking birds from the cloud forests of Central America. They have bright emerald-green plumage, iridescent feathers, and long tails. These birds are a symbol of beauty and freedom. Resplendent quetzals inhabit mountain forests and feed on fruits, insects, and small vertebrates.

White-faced ibises are long-legged wading birds with very long curved bills. They have striking dark plumage and white feathers around their eyes. These birds inhabit wetlands and marshes across both North and South America. Their diets include aquatic invertebrates, small fish, and insects. These are migratory birds traveling long distances between their breeding and wintering grounds.
