Rape Culture: Facebook allows it on its platform

Comments & images aren't removed especially in groups or in certain countries.

Facebook has shown itself to be one of the most harmful places on the internet in the most recent years, some people can’t see it depending on the region/location of your country. Much of Facebooks bad behavior was exposed during the testimony during the hearings with the United States Congress where Former Facebook data scientist Frances Haugen spoke. Haugen revealed “Facebook chose to maximize its growth rather than implement safeguards on its platforms.” Further she added “The result has been more division, more harm, more lies, more threats and more combat. In some cases, this dangerous online talk has led to actual

violence that harms and even kills people,” Haugen testified. As I have been using multiple accounts from different countries for privacy reasons I have learned that there are “NO PROTECTIONS” when I’m using my accounts created in African countries, also when in groups like my Thailand or Cambodian groups there are sexual, racist and inappropriate posts that I have reported to Facebook yet they refused to remove. Or they respond that the comments don’t go against community guidelines & standards, even though they contain threats of rape, racism, sexual harassment, sometimes even females nudity or child nudity.

This most recent post was in a Cambodia group, I have long wanted to visit Cambodia however you need a visa as an America citizen to travel there, so instead I went to South Korea which is visa free for a 90 day visit for Americans. I decided to put off my visit to Cambodia then of course I moved to Kenya than later to Ghana, so recently I joined this Cambodia group when a woman from the UK posted asking a few questions about safety in the country for a single women was it safe to explore the country alone. When a male member posted; “There’s no discrimination around here. Everyone gets raped equally”

His comment earned several laughing emojis from other men in the group, the Canadian male group moderator never removed the member or his post, Facebook as you can see from the photo above said the post didn’t go against their community standards. This isn’t the first time either for things that I’ve seen or reported on the social media site, there have been posts in groups even in the US where someone posted asking for a high school boy to come to their home.

They offer to pay them to come to their home, this was an online yard sale group, so this post gained several angry comments from members of the group and was posted several times over a month long period. In the Thailand group there were posts of young girls, White men from all over the world called them Whores, Sluts, listed bars places where you could find underaged girls for sex, they posted racial slurs towards Tai women & people living in the country. Many of the western men made crude comments about the penis sizes of the Tai men, when someone from Thailand posted an objection to the posts several men attacked her with threats of raping her. Facebook again refused to remove the comments, punish the posters they again said the comments didn’t go against community standards these comments again were in English.

Facebook has before made the excuse that comments have made its way onto the site because of language barriers many of the world languages aren’t represented on their software. However the many comments are in English yet they are seen, ignored and left on the site, there has been sex trafficking, rape, sex abuse all facilitated with the help of Facebook. Once I reported the KKK page on Facebook it was removed yet it had been operating for years prior to my report this is how Facebook ignores the toxicity on its platform for many years.

Racism, sexism, misogyny, political misleading information and lying, unpatriotic behavior, treason and rape. Living in African countries there are more Pro-Trump advertisements on my timeline then when I am on Facebook in the United States, many of these adds post that Trump has done things for the citizens of the US that actually never happened, that he never even talked about wanting to do during his time in office. (Many Africans in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana are very supportive of Trump also)

Within these many groups there are members with fake accounts some created within the same day in which they joined the groups and start to post comments. Facebook is allowing people to create a profile, join a group, post comments all within the matter of minutes, when I have reported accounts they have never found the accounts to violate any rules. There are several things that deem an account fake most don’t even have a photo yet this isn’t enough for the genius staff at Facebook that have allowed rape comments to stay on the platform without removal or punishment. Sex trafficking and enslavement of women & girls around the world is a trillion dollar industry. Social media has often provided predators with the source to lure millions of innocent victims right inside their own homes.
