The Shadows of Otherside by Whitney Hill
As some of you may—or may not—know, some of my freelance gigs are as a beta reader and editor, mainly for fiction. I have had the honor of reading many fantastic, lesser-known indie authors as a result of this gig. Today, I want to bring to you one of these authors and the series that I had the pleasure of beta reading: Whitney Hill and her adult urban fantasy series, The Shadows of Otherside.

Do Aliens Celebrate Christmas?
I almost did not return to Earth this year. What would be the point? Between the wars, the world leaders, and the mobs who put them in power, I already know that the humans of Earth are not worth saving. I have observed them, year after year, as did my father before me and his father before him. Humans doomed themselves a long time ago.

Winter Folkloric Beings. Top Story - December 2024.
Happy holidays, fellow Vocalites! I’m sure that we are all busy with our wintertime activities as well as the everyday responsibilities that keep our plates full all year round. A Christmas Beast. Content Warning.
With the transformation of the seven into an eight in the last panel of my digital clock, midnight crept closer. I reluctantly placed my Game of Thrones bookmark in my copy of A Christmas Carol and set it on the coffee table in front of me. I despised the novel, but it seemed appropriate for the time of year, and I hated even more when I had to stop reading for the change. Yet it was almost time, and I would never risk the safety of one of my books. They were the only loved ones I dared to have around me, especially on Christmas Eve.

Why We Create
Today, I read Mike Singleton’s Our Addiction to Dystopia, Horror and Sadness. It got me thinking not just about why we read and view what we read and view but also about why we create what we create. What compels us to create what we create? Why do we want to write, draw, paint, sculpt, act, dance, etc., when there seems to be no productive reason behind it (which itself is debatable)?
