Campers gather ‘round the fire’s light
Comforted by the protection it brings
From the dark abyss of the forest’s night
Where hide ravenous wild animals
And the ghosts of their scary stories
When, in the distance, they hear
The howling of a lone wolf’s cry
Frightening them back into their tents
If only they knew the broken heart
Crouching behind that beastly façade
Calling out for his pack to come back
And forgive his transgression
So he may be whole once more

I often think of the lone wolf - we use it like its a badge of honour in some way, but its seldom a choice I think
I feel so sad for the wolf 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Heart breaking Stephanie. I love the shifting perspectives, it made for a very well rounded poem/ story!
More likely he was gathering his pack…nice poem. Eons ago, it was just after dusk in the wilderness near Mt Denali in Alaska, and I heard the wolves howling, which made the hackles on my dog's neck stand up.
Stunning imagery. "That he may be whole once more."
