Tears in rain
Just watched Blade Runner, first time on the big screen, one of my local cinema's 'throwback' screenings of classic cinema history. I'd streamed it only a few weeks ago and was underwhelmed. Having seen the movie on the little screen so many times, I had pretty much lost interest in it.

Movie lineup
Been seeing a lot of film lately, not to mention rubbing shoulders with the stars on the red (purple, green, etc) carpet. Can be quite inspiring and wonderful to see the glitz and razz, fabulous dresses and stuff strutting. A lot of the female stars look great too. I do mean that I find men's fashion glamour choices much more interesting these days. I haven't seen all of the films on offer at the moment but those I haven't, or don't want to see, I have summarised in their own words. Where codes such as 'life-affirming' have been used, I have interpreted accordingly. Please feel free to disagree (or disapprove) in comments.

If this is not a crime thriller plot
Sometimes, I use elements of true crime stories for my fictional mystery and thriller writing. Why invent a dastardly crime when so many are committed every day? If, as I do, you like to ensure that your fictional writing has the authenticity of a true story, then where better to go than the current news feeds?

A Glimmer in the Gaslight. Top Story - August 2025.
This is a writing exercise and was entirely inspired by a recent Top Story from the wonderful Vocal creator Lana Lynx. Lana's story stemmed from her wondering what it would be like if dead authors, particularly dead Russian authors, posted their story ideas and WIPs on Facebook. Please check out the truly amazing and amusing results.

Oblivion: three
Having rearranged various appointments and assured my features editor I would later file the articles that she was expecting from me, I headed to the bank. Fortunately there was nothing I needed to submit to the news editor. Why I was taking such trouble over all this, I really did not know. Perhaps it was just the investigative journalist in me.

Drinkdown diary
Day zero Wed July 30 2025 Friends over for lunch with their two lovely and very clever children. The youngest, who has only recently started to write, spent his time connecting various devices to the Alexa unit. How he managed this, I have no idea, but when he asked if he could use my iPhone, I said no. Our son, working from home in his room, was surprised by the sudden start of a strange selection of songs on his smart speaker.
