Wondrous owl
Most elegant winged hunter
Your love song calls to me
From within the
Stillness
Before dawn
Enraptures
With its haunting melodious
Refrain
Would that I should gain eyes that listen
Wings that beat without a whisper
So that our hunt might prosper
As my love and I range
Across the sky
Pinpointing prey
Victim of our
Strigiforme Magnificence
O ~ o ~
Inspired by a recollection of listening to a pair of owls call to each other as I walked to Beckenham Junction Station in the darkness before dawn.

I LOVE owls! Fabulous poem. I want to fly with you and them. We have Great Horned ones that call to each other in our neighborhood. I am a bird watcher hobbyist (on my own more because groups make noise) and had never learned of the term Strigiforme - thank you!
Lovely poem about a beautiful animal!
Owls are so cute and fluffy! Loved your poem!
Hoo hoo, hooty hoo. I can see the bird in the words.
Lovely poem. Once I had an owl ring. It was fun and big. I have several things with owls and I like it when I can hear them in their evening communications.
Excellent words but the title made me think of teh Superb Owl that Americans are so fond of 😁 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sS0qhHiyrfI
