Something Wicked (Part 4)
There is nothing more evil than a person that misuses and abuses the trust of the innocent. I'm not sure one could find a better visual description of the innocent than Aleah Beckerle. As an infant, Aleah suffered a stroke when meningitis overtook her tiny body. Left nonverbal and in a wheelchair, Aleah depended on the people that surrounded her for care. If any of them failed to feed her, she wouldn't eat. When her wheelchair was pushed to a position and parked, Aleah was left to sit there, often unattended, until someone came for her. Aleah depended on her mother, the very person that brought her life, for everything she needed to survive. It is my belief that Cara Darlene Beckerle failed her daughter miserably. She failed her in life, and she failed her in death. There is an old saying: "If you run with the dogs, you get the fleas." Rarely does one think of the impact those disease-ridden fleas may have before bringing them home to exist amongst the people you are supposed to protect.

Bad Cops (Part 2)
Law enforcement is a crucial part of our society. Of that, there is no doubt. Anarchy and lawlessness would surely reign supreme without the efforts of the police officers that are willing to sacrifice themselves, so that you may live safely and without fear. Sometimes though, the police are not the answer, but part of the problem. Bad cops exist, and Evansville, Indiana is full of them. Try as they may, the Evansville Police Department just can't seem to hire officers that weren't bullied all the way through school, entitled because of their participation trophies, and equipped with a firearm and the means to ruin a life in an instant with a lie should things not go their way. Why are the troubled officers, many that come with an arrest record, permitted to patrol the streets and rise through the ranks of the department? It is the intention of this author to shine a spotlight on the crimes committed daily by those sworn to enforce the laws of the State of Indiana and the United States of America. We common citizens are expected to live our lives within the letter of the law. If we step outside of those lines, we should be punished. Police officers are supposed to live by the same laws, but are rarely held to the same standards as the every day citizen. What happens when an entire department lives above the law? The case of Mark Healy is a perfect example of allowing people in a position of power to exploit that position.

Bad Cops
Law enforcement officers are a critical part of maintaining law and order in a vicious world. Their jobs are not easy, and I'm quite sure this author would not want the undertaking. The dangers law enforcement officers face on a daily basis can't be fathomed by most people. They deal with the dregs of society. The worst of the worst. They are required to handle every situation that is thrown at them with professionalism and they are put through a barrage of tests prior to and during their training and subsequent employment. Physical and mental evaluations are conducted. Potential officers undergo extensive background checks, even speaking with family, coworkers and friends of the applicant before being forced to take a polygraph examination.

Something Wicked (Part 3)
Evansville, Indiana, is the home of the best of the best and the worst of the worst. Pizza King? Best Stromboli, ever. Zesto's? Let me lay out the picture for you. Your take-out order is handed to you in a paper bag, and by the time you get home, you can see through the bag. You open the burger and take a bite, and it's a mess. A greasy, artery-clogging, salty, delicious mess. Best burger, ever. Mesker Park Zoo is a must-see and you simply cannot visit Evansville without stopping in at the Hilltop Inn for the best brain sandwiches in the Midwest. (Or so I'm told. Brains? Yuck!) You find the most selfless and giving within the Evansville Fire Department and the Evansville Police Department certainly has some well decorated officers within their employ. Super cops. The ones you know better than to mess with. They take the job of law enforcement seriously. Their only purpose is to serve their people, and they love their people.

Something Wicked (Part 2)
Aleah Beckerle was a nineteen-year-old disabled young woman with a beautiful smile, and a passion for life. Her young life was cut short when she was kidnapped from her home, raped, and killed. Eight months later, Aleah's decomposed and defiled body was found in an abandoned home in Evansville, not far from the home that she was taken from.

Something Wicked (Part 1)
Something Wicked This Way Comes was written by Ray Bradbury in 1963. It tells the story of teenaged boys, who are enticed by a traveling carnival that comes to their town. It's a nightmarish experience, and both of the boys must learn to combat their own fear, and make it out of the fantasy Mr. Dark has created for them. Mr. Dark seemingly holds the power to grant the deepest desires of his patrons, and that draws his victims to him, allowing him to take over their lives and their bodies. In the end, the hero not only survives, but is able to save others. The novel was born in the imagination of a young boy, enthralled by a magician in a traveling carnival show. Far too often, and for reasons we will never understand, life imitates art, people go missing. Lifeless bodies are found in deserted places, or never found at all. What happens when something wicked comes your way? Would you know what to do?

The Bloody Truth (Pt. 7)
People die every day. A drug dealer shot on the corner, a drive-by intended for the neighbor that killed the toddler playing in your front yard, cancer, overdoses, and natural death all happens in this world. It's not supposed to happen to you, and it's not supposed to happen in your home! Your home is your place of peace. Your hiding place from the world. Your safe spot in a dangerous, uncaring, and cruel world. For some, closed doors are terrifying because what goes on behind them is unspeakable. For those people, living through the night is a blessing and waking in the morning is a curse.

The Bloody Truth (Pt. 6)
If you have ever been to Evansville, Indiana, you know there are some undeniable things that are specific to the city. You will notice there are stoplights at just about every intersection, earning Evansville the nickname of "stoplight city." It's obvious with a glance at the bumper stickers or t-shirts sported by most Evansville residents that the Indianapolis Colts reign supreme. The Frog Follies and The West Side Nut Club Fall Festival are known not just statewide, but worldwide. If one were motivated to look a little further, you would find that Evansville is also the home of some well-kept secrets that are hiding in plain sight

The Bloody Truth (Pt. 5)
It is often said that drugs and alcohol go hand in hand with the lifestyle of a killer. The case of the Gilligan family murders from Evansville, Indiana, is just such a case. Donald Ray Wallace, Jr. admitted to being in a drug-induced state of "strike hard, strike fast, don't stop until you win or are dead" when he broke into the family home of the Gilligans, a young Evansville family. That night would leave Evansville stunned and four innocent people dead.

Real Talk
Abortion is a topic that everyone is passionate about. One side says it's a woman's body, thus her right to choose. The other side says that life begins at conception, and abortion is murder. What we, as a society, don't often hear is what the fathers of the unborn children have to say about it. Are they given a choice? Sadly, fathers are not given a choice. If the mother wants an abortion, there is nothing a helpless and hopeless father can do to stop the death of the life he helped create. What happens when a father decides to fight for his rights? In a case filed in the Madison County, Alabama court system, nineteen-year-old Ryan Magers of Hunstville asked the following:

The Bloody Truth (Pt. 4)
I've always loved stories and poems about the wonder of women. Tales that highlight and remind a woman just how crucial she is to life and well-being. One of my favorites is "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle Rules The World" by William Ross Wallace, and reads, in part, as follows:

The Bloody Truth (Pt. 3)
Sometimes evil exists. There is no explanation for it, and trying to find one is an effort in futility. This is never more evident than when a parent murders their child in cold blood. It is unfortunate that is has become commonplace to see yet another story in the media about a mother killing her child or children. It less often occurs with men, but it happens far too often. These are the men that make us hold our children a little tighter at night. After all, if they would murder their own flesh and blood, what would they do to you and yours?
