The Bloody Truth, Part Eight
Maya Angelou wrote, “I really saw clearly, and for the first time, why a mother is really important. Not just because she feeds and also loves and cuddles and even mollycoddles a child, but because in an interesting and maybe an eerie and unworldly way, she stands in the gap. She stands between the unknown and the known.” In a perfect world, everyone would see the importance of motherhood and every mother would stand in the gap for her children. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world. Motherhood has been reduced to a visit to the doctor's office, a beaker and a stranger's sperm. Anyone CAN do it, but there are far too many that simply shouldn't. Erika Murray is one of those that shouldn't have.

Mercy
Friday morning, I woke up in a great mood. I had spent all day Thursday cleaning the house, running errands, and getting the kids prepared for a weekend at the lake with their uncle. My husband had set his alarm for three that morning, and left soon after for a guy's weekend of hunting and testosterone-filled fun at the cabin we co-own with a few other couples.

Daddy's Brat Has a Birthday!
Sunday morning at seven o'clock sharp, Daddy woke me with a smack on the ass. "Wake up, Princess! It's your birthday!" Daddy was home all week and he had promised to wake me every morning with something special. This was the last day and I was super excited to see what Daddy had planned for my birthday. I turned over and smiled at Daddy. He kissed my nose and smiled, his blue eyes shining and full of mischief.

Killer Company (Part Two)
Eulea Parot lived in Florence County, South Carolina when she gave birth to the youngest in a string of five illegitimate children. Donald Henry "Pee Wee" Gaskins entered the world March 31, 1933, to a mother that barely noticed his birth. At the tender age of just one year, while left unattended, Gaskins drank a bottle of kerosene. This caused severe seizures until he was three years old. His mother brought men in and out of her house, paying little attention to the treatment her children received by the men. Donald, because of his small stature and big attitude, was often the target of the beatings around the house. Gaskins attended school until he tired of the daily beatings by his peers and the castigation of his teachers at the age of 11, when he dropped out in favor of working a full day at a local auto repair garage.

Killer Company, Part One
Killer Company, Part One Andrei Chikatilo Ukranian cannibal, Andrei Chikatilo. Andrei Chikatilo was born in 1936 in the village of Yablochnoye in Ukraine to an absent father and a brutal, domineering mother. His mother claimed he had an older brother that was stolen and subsequently eaten by neighbors, a tale that wasn't hard to believe as Andrei was born during the agricultural recession to farmer parents. His young life was brutal, with his mother often reminding him of what happened to his brother. School was not easy for Andrei either. He was a small child and much weaker than his peers. After his father committed the unforgivable sin of being taken hostage as a prisoner of war during World War II, the schoolchildren found Andrei's father to be a traitor instead of a victim, and they punished Andrei for it every chance they got. Even through all the bullying at school and horrendous conditions, he lived inside his parents ramshackle shanty, and Chikatilo was an exceptional student and maintained high grades.

The Christmas Angel
Christmas is supposed to be fun and full of excitement, but for one family, it only brings heartache. It was Christmas Eve when Calab was on his way to see his friends, looking at the Christmas trees that were adorned with brightly lit bulbs in bold colors and could be seen through the blinds in most of the homes along Riverside Drive in Evansville, Indiana. The air was crisp, and Calab was thankful for the ride from his brother-in-law, Richie Rivera, to see his friends at Woodland Park Apartments. Nobody knew that would be the last time Calab would see the lights on the Christmas trees or celebrate Christmas, or any other holiday with his family and friends. Nobody knew that before night's end, Calab would be dead, the victim of a single bullet wound to the head. In what seems to be normal practice, The Evansville Police Department called the death "suspicious", but little has been done to find out what happened to Calab Luckett.

Missing or Murdered?
Every forty seconds a child goes missing in the United States. Most of the time, that missing child isn't missing after all, but has made his or her way to a friend or relative's house without the knowledge of the parent or guardian. Sometimes though, the unthinkable happens, and despite all of the precautions that may be in place, a child disappears. It is especially troubling when a child that is unable to care for themselves goes missing. Such is the case of eight-month-old Amiah Josaphine Leann Robertson from Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Wicked Truth
When I started Something Wicked Evansville on Facebook, I did it in response to another group rejecting my work. They didn't reject the pieces based upon anything other than subject matter, and only because it was a subject that made them uncomfortable. I was banned from yet another group for telling the truth, so I started my own. In the beginning, my hope was that twenty or thirty people would join and would check in every now and then to see if I had written anything new. I never dreamed Something Wicked would become what we are today, but it is my prayer that we continue to grow.
