THE WORLD BEYOND
The hallway light was out. Again. Nora’s slippers made no sound as she padded down the narrow corridor toward the guest room, using her phone as a flashlight. The house was half asleep, breathing its old wood creaks and the faint hum of the refrigerator.

DON'T BLINK
I don’t know when it started. Maybe it was the rain from that afternoon. Heavy, rhythmic, drumming a cold insistence against the office windows. Maybe it was that blink I didn’t notice until afterward, when the world had quietly shifted a fraction of a second ahead of me.

THE KNOCK
It was a Tuesday night, the kind that folds in on itself, hushed and unremarkable. Rain had stopped just after dusk, leaving the world slick and smelling faintly of wet earth. Inside her small house at the edge of the woods, Clara sat curled in her armchair with a blanket pulled around her shoulders, a book open but forgotten on her lap. The stillness was almost too complete; even the old radiator had gone quiet.
