A lantern
standing out in the dark.
Nobody lit it.
Nobody guarded it.
But still,
it burned.
People passed.
Some never noticed.
Some stopped,
shook their heads,
and kept moving forward into shadow.
But a few,
with their tired feet and heavy eyes,
they looked up,
saw that glow,
and thought:
maybe.
They continued to walk.
The lantern didn’t call out.
It didn’t promise to save them.
It just stayed.
Perfectly still.
Bright enough for them to believe in.
When they reached it,
they found no answers,
no finish line.
But just enough light
to see the next step.
And sometimes,
that’s all it takes
to keep going.
About the Creator
Pamela Dirr
I like to write based on my personal experiences. It helps me clear my mind. We all go through things in life. Good things. Not so good things. My experiences might also help other people with things that they might be going through.
