The Greatest Gift We’ve Been Given (Merry Christmas)
Isaiah 9:6–7 NIV For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. [7] Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this.

Did You Know
Luke 2:1–12 NIV In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. [2] (This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) [3] And everyone went to their own town to register. [4] So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. [5] He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. [6] While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, [7] and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. [8] And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. [9] An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. [10] But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. [11] Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. [12] This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”

The Hands and Feet
Our Lord has no body here but ours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. We are the eyes through which He looks with compassion on this world. We all have different functions. “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10)

Like Letters Written in the Sand
Clarence provided her with strength on those days when she felt completely depleted and weak. Despite the fact that Anna-leis prided herself on her strength, she had been through a great deal over the past few months, from the pain of losing her legs, to those who decided to drive even though they had consumed too much alcohol, and the struggle of walking again with prosthetic legs, she still struggled, at times wanting to surrender. It had been Clarence’s promise to her that he would support her in whatever decision she made, but the decision had to be the right one for her. He would never cease to love her, and she felt the same way about him.

Gifts That Matter
Matthew 2:9–11 NIV After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen when it rose went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was. [10] When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. [11] On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.

Our Greatest Treasure
Matthew 1:18–21 NIV This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. [19] Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. [20] But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. [21] She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

Despite losing her legs, her life was far from over. There were still moments of grief for Anna-leis, she missed her career, and although the phantom pains, burning, stinging pains were not as frequent as they had been, they still came at times.

Fire
Joshua 8:7–9 New International Version “7 you are to rise up from ambush and take the city. The Lord your God will give it into your hand. 8 When you have taken the city, set it on fire. Do what the Lord has commanded. See to it; you have my orders.”
