Fifteen minutes
A drop in time
But it was enough
For me
To read the pain
In your eyes.
~~~~~~
Fifteen years old
And you shouldn’t
Be carrying a burden
That’s not yours,
A battle you should
Not have to fight!
~~~~~~

You aren’t my
Daughter
But does that
Even really matter
Because I’ll fight
Along side you
As if you were
And as I reminded
You today
You have
A safe place here!
~~~~~~
Fifteen minutes
Was all it
Took
To see
You are fighting
A war
You shouldn’t
Have to fight
But I saw something else
Too
A hope being
Clung to
As I handed
You that
Bible you
Asked for.
~~~~~~

Fifteen minutes
A drop in
Time but
It was enough
For me to see
You weren’t
The little girl
You once were
But neither are
You
The adult
They are expecting
You to be!
