"A Real Boy"
It's taken a long time, but I've figured out how to manipulate the thoughts a bit from here in the background. I can't hear things, not while It is awake and in control, but I have got a lot better at lip reading. I give it a little nudge so it goes where it can see faces. That means I can see them, too. That helps.

Fifty Per Cent Off Your Summer Body
The two children were thin and hungry when their (loving, probably) father led them deep, deep, and deeper into the forest. Two days later, they're weary, dehydrated, their clothes ragged, and their pale, strawberries-and-cream-skin scratched. They are also, not to put too fine a point on it, thoroughly lost.

Wetherby Close
She shrieked at me when I told her she had to leave. Hissed and spat like an angry little kitten. You can't do that! she said. Well, shouted, really. I'm an estate agent, you know! she added, as if she were telling me she were a big, hot shot lawyer, or something. (Ha. As if. I'm still on the look out for a decent lawyer.) I know you can't just evict me! she seethed. I have rights!

I Love It Here. Runner-Up in Everything Looks Better From Far Away Challenge.
It's a very neat street. Immaculate front lawns. No gates hanging off their hinges, or doors that need a lick of paint. The people are cheery, and they all know each other. When I get out of my car, a neighbour greets me.

Jerk
So she's lying there, in my arms. I could see her but not feel her, or smell her. I should have been able to. I could still see out of my eyes, so I should be able to use the other senses, but no. Those were closed off to me. I was trapped in here, behind these eyes, in a silent, empty world.
