I am a non-binary, trans-masc writer. I work to dismantle internalized structures of oppression, such as the gender binary, class, and race. My writing is personal but anecdotally points to a larger political picture of systemic injustice.

Thoughts on a Day Marked
Yesterday was Trans Day of Visibility. It was a day of mourning and grief for many of us, grief for those who are no longer here to be seen—those who did not survive their visibility. Love and power to my resting comrades, young and old.

No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us. - Marsha P. Johnson Too often, the act of gendering is a danger to people. All people, even if they don’t identify as trans or non-binary. The fact of the matter is that the sex and gender binary is deadly and intentionally so. If it’s not killing you physically, it is killing you spiritually. It is killing your humanity, killing your self-love and expression, and killing your self-discovery and potential. It leaves little to the imagination, trapping our minds with only certain tools: stereotypes and assumptions. Fear is bred here.

Love Poem to a Bipolar Self
I am fixed to this spot, magnifying glass in hand. I have taken inventory of myself and now point the lens to the center of my chest, a slight angle toward the sun. I hold it long enough; a small dot forms, an irritation growing. It feels particular and significant until my eyes relax and the dot bleeds into the reds of my skin.

Kicking a Lifelong Habit
"Pick your poison," my mom would always say. Lots of moms said it, I'm sure. It seems like a popular enough phrase, simply meaning here are your options, maybe they aren't great, but... pick one. She always said it, even if none of my options were "poison" per se.

Brewing T. Honorable Mention in Pride Under Pressure Challenge.
A while ago, I wrote about the Medicaid unwinding during the Biden administration that left me without my prescriptions. The thing I didn't mention, quite intentionally, was the fact that this unfortunate change also ensured I wouldn't be able to afford my weekly dose of testosterone. I didn't frame it as an attack on my rights as a queer person. I didn't even point to my queerness as one of the reasons I was removed from coverage. It was two weeks after my top surgery, but I understood this as coincidence, and knew millions of people were impacted by the loss of COVID protections, not just queer people.

Only We Can Save Us
Identity politics has proven contentious and prescriptive in the United States over the decades. Depending on who wields it, it can be a pivotal tool for building and destroying interest blocs. It can act as a potential indicator of a person’s interests, opinions, and political leanings, for better or worse. Theorists can describe it as distracting but essential for developing special interest groups within parties and community organizing.
