Fox Hunt; Chapter 3
I let my eyes flick about the room. Everything is clean and orderly. The former mayor's widow had done well for herself after her husband's death. Just how she had wound up in such a town was beyond me, yet it was clear she had refused to leave the high life of the big cities behind. I find it hard to picture a person trained to run spending much time here. Finally, the door opens. Before the butler can speak, an older woman, who I presume is Lady Nightingale, brushes past him. Everything about her is prim and polished, yet there's no mistaking the distraught look on her face as her eyes flick between Priamos and me.

A Gift of Ice and Snow; Prologue
The forest is quiet and still as the two fae creep along. The male and female both carry bows, but neither have them strung. The quiet is not a bother to them. When the silence is broken, they share a glance, both moving to ready their bows, prepared for anything that might be coming through the forest towards them. While they were in their territory, it did border human lands.

The Blood Alchemist; Chapter 6
I watch as my mother walks away, the guards following her closely. I'm not sure why I feel so confused. I think back on her words. Take care of your new friend, but don't forget to also make sure you come back. What an odd thing to say. I mean, I do have a tendency to get into trouble, but this shouldn't be that much trouble. Unless Olivia's mother was completely wrong about the Blood Alchemist.

Something Darker; Chapter 13
It's been about a week, and V doesn't seem to be getting any better, but she doesn't seem to be getting any worse either. When Zanthus talks to me, he doesn't seem to care one way or the other, but with how much time he spends sitting by her side, I'm fairly certain he does care. Thankfully, Eren is too busy running amuck to notice how often Janice, Mum, and I slip upstairs to ask questions.

A Curse to Break; Chapter 3
The chiming of the clock pulls my attention from the book. As it begins to count the hour, realization dawns on me. It was seven. I was supposed to be back before seven. Our dinner guests were arriving and tonight I was expected to be present. Lord Levine was hosting this dinner in hopes of arranging a marriage between some merchant's son and myself. He had told me himself not to be late. He was going to be furious.

Fox Hunt; Chapter 2
The remains of the cottage sit in blackened heaps. If the cottage had contained any secrets, there was no way it'd be giving them up now. I toe what I can only assume is the remains of a chair. It slowly crumples and crumbles, a small plume of ash rising only to settle back down over my boot.

Fox Hunt; Chapter 1
The water splashing beneath my feet is jarringly loud in the silence of the forest. I miss the soft crunch of leaves underfoot. Part of me wants to slow, to quiet my passing, but I can't. I continue to plunge forward, water splashing loudly. The soft mud of the brook's bed slows my progress a little, though the track of my passing would soon be gone.
