One Thousand Paper Cranes
I made the final fold to form the crane's head, tossed it into the growing pile, and frantically grabbed a new square of paper. We had to finish in time, we just had to! I fought back tears. Origami wasn't something you could rush. I took a deep breath and continued making one meticulous fold after another, calming as I did so. We could do it. It would work. Just breathe.

I found myself curled up in a ball on the floor of the fitting rooms, crying as silently as I could. The wedding was only a week away, and I couldn't find anything to wear that didn't look completely hideous. I looked disgusting, and a five hundred dollar dress wasn't going to change that.

My stomach twisted in a knot as I stared across the field from the verandah. With its two murky windows for eyes, the old barn stared back at me. Its huge door morphed into a gaping mouth before me, completing its eerie face. Even though it was several hundred yards away, it seemed to pulse and loom closer the longer I watched it.

Jack and the Glory
My Pop is the storyteller of my family. He turns banal events in our lives into epic adventures. He creates so-called "facts" off the top of his head that sound so convincing anyone would believe him. (At least, until Google came along!). My Dad would say lovingly that he's the great bullshitter of the family.
