Writing has become more important as I live with cancer. It's a therapy, it's an escape, and it's a way to do something lasting that hopefully leaves an impression.

The Conduit: Chapter 12
A storm with eighty-mile-an-hour winds whipped into the cavern, rustling the tents at basecamp and keeping their occupants from getting much sleep. Jonas sat at a computer watching the images from the drone flights over the barrier around the second structure inside the mountain. The second structure was the mystery.

The Conduit: Chapter 11
At the edge of death, there is nothing one won't do to survive. Under the beating sun of a hellscape of desert and rock, being lost for days is a sure way to meet one's end. With the tenaciousness of a thousand soldiers, even the most demure might make it, if they're lucky or willing to suffer. And it was suffering felt beneath the heat of the midday so long ago.

The Conduit: Chapter 10
Hours passed, and Max was finally able to return the station to normal routine procedures. They were still investigating Carter’s death, and Han was going over every second of camera footage from the previous night to the morning when Carter was found. All he could do was work the case in front of him. All Max Shepherd could do was inform the group that they needed to send someone to inform Carter’s family. Of course, number one would take care of that. Max didn’t know if he believed his boss or not, and that was why he was searching for personnel files on Carter. He was going to reach out to his family and express his condolences, but he was still working on what to say.

The Conduit: Chapter 9
Early in the morning, as Max rolled around beneath a sheet, enjoying a visit from the astral plane visitor haunting his dreams, he jumped out of bed as the buzzer at his door alerted him someone was there. Max got up, slid into a pair of pants, and hurried across his private quarters yelling, “I’m coming.” As Max opened the door, the look on Jensen's face told him something was wrong.

The Conduit: Chapter 8
A launch departed the Oceanic Station below the gangway where Carter was running laps. He looked to the ocean, watching the boat as it roared to life, speeding away across the slight chop of the warm Pacific waters. Carter wondered where the doctor was going off to at such an early time of day, but as a senior member of the staff, she had clearances he didn’t possess. She could take a launch without going through Commander Shepherd’s office, or at least that’s what he thought. He didn’t know anything about the pleasure craft anchored a mile from the station.

The Conduit: Chapter 7
Research becomes exciting when you’re close to a discovery. The words sounded good in the head of Jonas Quinn, an archaeologist working on his doctorate. As he filled in for the professor, he struggled to figure out how to turn from student to lecturer. It wasn’t part of his plan to teach, not at this point in his life. Jonas wanted to be in the field, finding artifacts and researching their history. The world of an archaeologist sounded fun, even exciting, but he’d only been on two digs during his years at the university and had yet to find anything important.
