Letter To The Sunset Watchers
People say they love watching sunsets. They gaze upon the burning sky for a few moments. They think, “Wow, that’s a pretty sunset” — maybe even verbalize it. They alert their friends at the spectacle, provoking an impromptu photo-op. With their backs facing the sunlight, they snap a couple pictures. Some dimple-revealing grins, some pursed-lipped glances, some dead-panned profile pics.

Leave No Bird Unstoned
I like to put barbeque sauce in soup broth. Not every single soup, mind you. I prefer adding the tangy flavor to beef stews and hearty vegetable blends. Something about the sweet and smoky taste of barbeque sauce mixes immaculately with a savory liquid base. Even cheese soups are enriched with a dollop of America's finest condiment.

The Talking Walls of Angel Island
Throughout the U.S. Reconstruction Era, violence and bigotry towards Chinese Americans was business as usual. Prior to Reconstruction, California Governor John Bigler delivered a speech to his state assembly in 1952. In his deliverance, he requested a ban on Chinese immigration. I could have no knowledge or connection with the artist, yet find resonance or disturbance in their artistry.

Blindspot
This week on the Thomas Jefferson Hour, I turned the tables and interviewed David Swenson about the Repatriation Project of Frances Densmore’s audio recordings of Native Americans in 1911. The hand-cranked wax cylinder recordings of Densmore were instrumental in preserving Native American history during a time where promotion of Native American indigenous culture was at an all-time…

Over The Moon
When I was younger, I wanted to go to the Moon. I could float around with carefree exhilaration, exploring uncharted territory like an eager tourist. Experiencing the wider galaxy - not being bound by Earth's gravity - was a fantasy that piqued my curiosity. This innocuous fascination led to my dark blue bedroom ceiling accessorized with hanging satellites and glow-in-the-dark stars. Being on the Moon was a wonderful dream as a kid. It still is.

The Ways of the Wind. Content Warning.
Inspired by the challenge of Mackenzie Davis, I compiled four songs that uniquely remind me of the wind. I have always conceptualized music as a way to explore different cultures and experiences. Thus, each entry represents one of the cardinal directions, guiding us through colorful universes that reflect the tempestuous nature of our human condition. Let's see where the current takes us!
