My Dad's Gold Star
In 1861, the Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) Company was formed by a group of gunsmiths. In 1880, the company found that the tooling for firearms was adaptable to making bicycles and bicycle parts. In November of 1919, the company premiered their first motorcycle, a 770cc side-valve vee-twin, Model E motorcycle. As the years passed, the other arms of the business did not prove as profitable as their motorcycles. Today, the BSA name is synonymous with quality motorcycles.

The last ride
“Come on old mate, let’s go for a drive” Ronin lifted his head from his bed and looked at me. I had his lead in my hand although I knew we wouldn’t need that today, I just thought it would help make it all seem a bit more normal. The momentary burst of excited energy in his eyes, unfortunately, couldn’t be matched by his old legs, as he tried to lift himself up the pain shot through his body, he let out a little whimper and lay back down. I knelt next to him, put my hand on his back, and said, “It’s ok buddy, I’ll…” but I couldn’t finish the sentence. The tears started to well in my eyes again, I tried wiping them away with my arms. Instead of talking, I ran my hand along his old fur hoping he wouldn’t notice how upset I was.

your quiet today As Linda pressed send on the message, she instantly realised that she’d used the wrong “you’re”, she knew that there would be a response ridiculing her grammar again. She put her phone down next to her keyboard and looked back at the computer monitor. As her fingers began dancing over the keys again, her mind wandered back to thoughts of Tim. In these times of plague, not as many people were coming into the office and the regular messages from him had brightened her days and replaced some of the other interactions with her colleagues. She hadn’t heard from him since he’d sent a good morning message, which is nothing unusual, it just made her day go a lot slower.

Now you don’t need to be a film noir buff or a hipster to get something out of one of his films. Personally, I always watch them and find myself thinking that I was born about 70 years too late. So, for everyone else out there, why should you watch the movies starring a guy that died probably before your parents were born? Or why should you re-watch them? Let’s explore.

I accidentally revealed to a work colleague that I write erotic fiction on Vocal. Top Story - January 2022.
That's not embarrassing, this is embarrassing... I’m usually pretty good at keeping my work persona and my non-work persona separate. You know I dress in a business shirt and tie on weekdays, I’m a shorts and t-shirts guy on weekends. In the office, I manage a team of professionals and will talk with my staff if they are behaving in a manner that’s not ok, after hours I drink and swear a lot. I think there aren’t too many of us that don’t show our full selves at work, I mean unless you’re an exotic dancer or sex worker, in which case that is an accurate description of what you do for work.

A trip to the market
Nature's best with no preservatives As she picked up the jar of pickles, Sally couldn’t help but feel like she was playing into the ultimate pregnancy stereotype. The fact remained, she had been craving pickles for weeks and since she was at the market she may as well get them. As she went to place the jar in her shopping cart, her belly pressed against the handle, pushing it slightly forward. She realised in enough time to make sure the jar didn’t drop to the ground. She may have been having pickle cravings but certainly didn’t want to have an accident while buying pickles.

Did I just diagnose myself with Autism Spectrum Disorder from watching a Jim Jefferies stand-up special?
“You know, how you have little empathy, you don’t listen when others talk, and you don’t make eye contact.” Ok now I have to say this off the bat. I know that Jim Jefferies is a comedian. I know that as a comedian he says things to get a laugh, not to cure cancer, or even to diagnose people with specific illnesses. His job is entertainment, just like I know that Star Wars isn’t real (I still, however, firmly believe that I could become a jedi… But we can discuss that later). So please don’t think I am relying on the words from a comedy routine alone.
