Ranking Films of 2022
Okay so 2022 ended up being an amazing year for movies, I’ve decided to rank them, now this list isn’t actually in any particular order. All movies with the same number rating are tied with each other. Most movies that got a half a point off because of rewatchability, that said you have to be in a very specific moon to rewatch those films and therefore they got a slightly lower ranking. Now for context the only films in history that I have ever given a 10/10 are the Lord of the Rings films (all of them), and The Princess Bride. Now all I think this list proves is that I need to raise my standards, which is really saying something because I am very specific and very judgy about my movies, so I am in fact going to be a little harsher going into 2023.

Bringing Mutants into the MCU
Disney/Marvel owns Fox once again and as soon as that deal went down many comic book fans knew that meant at some point that we would get to see the X-Men in the MCU at some point. Now I think the most realistic of us knew that it wouldn’t be for a while but as we wait there has been much speculation as to what version or makeup of the X-Men we might get. Though the most common and popular characters are what a lot of fans would hope for, characters like Wolverine and Professor X would be a mistake to bring into the MCU so soon. Phase 4 has heavily hinted at the existence of mutants and I think it's important to talk about which mutants would make the most sense in the MCU as we know it now.

Doctor Who
One of my favorite shows of all time is such because of how heartfelt, emotional and in touch the characters and dialogue are. Of course my favorite Doctors are 9-11 but they all have some incredible lines that speak to the enormity of Doctor Who. So here I go with some of my favorite lines from the timeless show.

The Batverse
So as someone who really hates Batman, and everything he does in the comics, I also hate the overuse of his existence, his fans and DCs complete and total reliance on such a mediocre character (though that is an entirely different article). Really what I hate is the sweeping aside of truly good and intriguing characters for the Dark Knight. All of his villains and sidekicks are truly more interesting than he is. So I think they deserved some spotlight time.

The Menu
The Menu was truly one of my most anticipated films of 2022, and then we didn’t get to go see it in theaters. So though I was disappointed that I had to watch it on HBO Max I am glad that I finally got to see it. The trailer depicted what seemed to be a satire with the message of “eat the rich” a theme that made it a must watch for us. After watching the film, it was definitely a satire, just not truly the “eat the rich” kind, more like eat the overly intellectual. Which is part of the reason watching people on the internet analyze it to death is hilarious. There really wasn't that much to analyze and that's what I appreciated most about it, it was very straight forward.

Scarlet Witch
Now that the MCU has finally discovered (and wasted) the power of Scarlet Witch the comic book world has caught back up. Her newest solo series is releasing and the world will hopefully get to see the power of the Scarlet Witch again. As far as we know this is going to be an ongoing series, the first granted to miss Wanda Maximoff. Up until now she has only received a limited solo run and a joint solo series with The Vision. We could certainly talk about why it took so long for Wanda to finally get her own ongoing series but I feel like we all know the answer already.

A Man Called Otto
So as I’ve been saying, my husband and I have been catching up on movies from the end of 2022. This weekend's pick was A Man Called Otto. Now I will admit that the trailer looked cute but initial impressions didn’t wow me, we saw it because I will see anything with Tom Hanks in it. That said Tom Hanks was an incredible casting choice and this was such an amazing role for him. He plays a great grumpy old man.

The Whale
Brendan Fraser has been off the big screen for years now, many of us remember him being our strong and sexy movie crush when we first saw The Mummy and he's generally known as one of the sweetest humans on the planet. So when his new movie was announced the world seemed genuinely proud of him and happy for him. Having now seen the film I am glad to say that all of that pride and excitement was worth it.

Babylon
So the end of 2022 was kind of insane and we didn’t get to see as many movies as we would have liked so January is going to be my catch up month. These will not count towards the year end review of films for 2023 but will be added to the year end review for 2022. So first up we have the second Margot Robbie film of 2022, Babylon. Babylon got a lot of bad reviews, with around 50% on Rotten Tomatoes from both critics and audience members, and as always I am here to say that everyone that wrote negative reviews about this film are stupid and wrong.

Devotion
AMC A-List has been such a blessing for someone who creates all of her content around film and tv, Devotion was a film that my husband really wanted to see and I honestly went into the movie knowing absolutely nothing about it. If you’ve been following me for a while, you know that's my favorite way to go into films. I like going in having absolutely no expectations whatsoever. I was hooked after the first five minutes. I have a very specific thing for war movies that center around aviators, I went through a very long Pearl Harbor and Flyboys phase. Devotion is an excellent addition to my favorite flier movies.

Avatar: Whose the Best?
With new Avatar stories in the works, fans are both excited and nostalgic. New Avatars gives us more depth into the Avatar lore as well as enhance the incredible stories that already exist. We know that we will be getting 3 movies in the Avatar universe that will center around different Avatars, the first focusing on the Gaang. We also know that there is a new series in the works centered around the next Avatar in the cycle after Korra. That said I would like to dive into the quality of Avatar’s we’ve had so far. Now I want to be clear that this is not a reflection of the shows but of the actual in fiction Avatar and how he/she did at being the Avatar.

Black Panther: Background
With the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever the internet seems to be split into two camps. The sane people loved the movie and recognized it for the genius it is and the sociopaths incapable of critical thinking or emotion hated it. That said, one of the biggest criticisms before the movie was even released was that Shuri was taking up the mantle. However this was in fact a comic accurate event that happened long before Chadwick’s death and the rewrite of the movie. So I thought that I’d jump with some very necessary comics to read with Shuri taking the lead.
